Christmas can be the loneliest time of the year for some people and for those of us who have lost close ones, it becomes a sort of pilgrimage to them.

I miss my brother in law as we always had so much fun with him and the children when they were young. and the silly presents we used to buy. Now they have all grown up and are doing their own thing.

For me Christmas has totaly lost its meaning - decorations and lights are going up in people houses on 1st Dec. When I was small decorations went a few days before or even on Christmas eve. It has lost it's magic or am I just getting to old and grumpy?? Answers not required

Well said libralady I don,t think you are as old and grumpy as me but I agree with your sentiments. Christmas has lost much of its appeal due to commercialization.Last night on television I saw some morons queuing for the latest computer game while a large section of the world are starving.

Christmas is what you make it Joey and Libralady ! If you succumb to the commercialism and then spend Christmas Day doing nothing but eating and watching TV then you WILL feel it lost its magic.

It has never lost its magic for me and I still wake on Christmas Day with the same magical feeling I had when I was young. Last year all our family decided to spend only £10 on each other and it was the best Christmas ever - we had so much fun trying to get as much for our £10 as possible! Its not to do with presents, its about being with friends and family and having fun, switching off the TV and enjoying eachother's company.

Personally I dont mind seeing Christmas Trees and lights go up on December 1st. The build up to Christmas is wonderful

What I was trying to say aenigma is that you had these people queuing to spend hundreds of pounds on a toy

Yes Joey, I understood, but you said that because of this Christmas had lost it's appeal! It can only lose it's appeal if you do the same, surely? I was also answering Libralady's post as well.

to libralady and joey comments about Christmas' commercialization. In some ways it does but then its still fun. You should go to Philippines and see that Christmas decorations go up the first day of September then you will say what the heck.............

Kai, thank you for the song, it was one of my favourites but now it brakes my heart.
Hugs to everyone.
