Do any of those English subtitles? My wife won't watch with me unless there is english.

I liked Kebab Connection, Mucizlar Komedisi, and Arkadaşım şeytan.

Kurtlar Vadisi, (movie) was good also.

The wife was cheating on her husband with a taxi driver anyway to cut a long story short she was killed in an accident and the husband found out about the affair and went after the taxi driver to torture/kill him.I found this film really very interesting moving and intense i want to know if anyone could tell me the name of it? I am under the impression that is it a fairly recent film.thanks in advance.

aww come on don't be so harsh, mustafa was going to bury the guy alive.I for one think thats just a little bit harsh for anyone no matter what they have done.I don't know maybe i am just too compassionate for my own good but then again maybe its the good old fashioned turkish male jealously thing.I thought that was a strong vein throughout the film.

Just quick question, i havent watched this film, yet, but did the guy know the woman was actually married to Mustafa?

Just watched (and liked) Vizontele Tuuba, a movie directed by Yılmaz Erdoğan.

The movie is set in the summer before the coup d'état of september 1980. Turbulent times, wrapped in a warm and sweet movie.

I don't think you're too compassionate, you're just normal. Well put about the "good old-fashioned turkish male jealousy thing" . The worst thing in a relationship is to be cheated on, but the reaction of the guy in this movie (based on your comments) is quite pathologic. But then again, how many men are concerned about cheating on their wifes/girlfriends? They usually find it wrong when it's THEM who are cheated ON. Good old fashioned male double standards...

Yeah i think your point about double standards is a valid one.In answer to another question yes the man did know that this woman was actually married to mustafa and he didnt seem to mind! Although having said that she was very willing.
Yes your right catwoman mustafa was very disturbed in my opinion and wanted revenge at any cost.A bit of a nutter if you ask me!

My Favorite Turkish films:

Şans Kapıyı Kırıncı - brilliantly funny (you don't even really need to know Turkish to appreciate the film)

Babam ve Oglum - with a large box of tissues

Pardon - another funny one with Ferhan Şensoy

Hırsız Var - Halık Bilginay

And another slapstick comedy with Halık Bilginay where all the men in a music recording studio wear bright coloured shiny suits !

I've seen the film 'Hokkabaz' in the cinema here. It was really funny! Too bad the subtitles didn't always give the right translation (it's nice if you can understand some Turkish sometimes ).

I have also seen Babam ve Oglum in Istanbul. My host mom warned me that she knows lots of people who started crying during the film, and she was right.. I couldn't stop myself from having a few tears .

Among films named here (Babam ve oğlum for one, left a big impression), I have also seen less quality films. One of them was 'Organize işler'. Really an empty storyline, and no impressive directory. However, it was good for an evening with friends, as the dvd had dutch subtitles too.

Many tried to pronunce the Dutch word for 'güzellik yarışması', which was the most fun side-effect of that film for me

I for one didn't cry during that movie... I disliked the character of the "father", but he cleaned himself after all, so I was very happy at the moment of truth and reconciliation. That was the scene I liked most.
The movie didn't leave a big impression on me, but I'm sure that for Turkish people for whom similar conflicts are very real, it must be a great movie. Overall, I thought it was one of the best Turkish movies, well done.

Yes, we are . I find the plots of most Turkish movies to be rather simplistic, devoid of depth and real issues. They mostly talk about superficial, simple problems of daily life - like - someone stole a bike and the village accused the wrong person. Recently I saw a really dumb movie - something about an ice cream seller... Many Turkish movies are this simplistic. They do have a superficial charm though - it gives an illusion that people in Turkey don't have any real problems . Another shallow movie I saw was something about a watermelon seller... at some point in the movie I was literally watching the guy sitting at the stand and reading newspaper... that was the action (there were no customers).
There are some exceptions of course, although I am yet to see a deep, mature Turkish movie. I am planning to watch "Bliss" (Mutluluk) some time soon, which has good reviews, so I am getting my hopes high.
Oh, I need to say that I liked Hamam (about the homosexual guy) - because it dealt with such a taboo issue for Turkish people in such a good way.
