The two words mean very different things.\

Katıl = mingle
Katil = slaughter

It would be easy with an english keyboard to say the wrong thing. What do native speakers assume when there is a word with "dotted i", that might be ı?

Teşekküler

I imagine they would make an educated guess! If you said that you were "going to mingle with people" I can't imagine they would think you said you were "going to slaughter with people".

Unless of course, you were a butcher....

....or a psychopath

yeah exactly i agree..
the practice is very needed to get something better especially as turkish has also sometimes own characteristics out of grammer...
i always use english letters in my written conversations (but informal) instead of ı,ş,ğ,ç,ö,ü while typing and noone misunderstood me up to now

That's not "katil", but "katletmek" : (v) slaughter
katliam : (n) slaughter

kâtil : murderer

katil zanlısı : suspect of murder

Not at all! Life has taught me not to have a fight with three: your governmet, your boss, your wife (or girlfriend),- or a woman - because you will be the side who always lose in the end, even if you are in the right.

You have only ever been right once Mr.Q - it was on the day when you thought you had made a mistake

çok çok Inglizce ve daha Türkce değil.

How do you say "bury the ax" in Turk doesn't translate straight across? Balta gömmek?

Also many thanks for the help provided before the "bantering" started.

Bury the ax would literally be 'baltayı gömmek', but I don't know if Turks say that (it would be nice to find out )
I think you could say 'barışmak' or 'sulh yapmak' (to reconcile/ make peace)

Theres a cool özlem tekin lyric though.

"Balta orda sap burda" Seems to be more like
Axe head off the handle...

Türklar ne düsünüyorsün?

There is a idiom says "bir baltaya sap olamamak" it means; to be unable to find a job

Özlem Tekin was talking about this in her song.If you look at the complete lyrics of that song you can understand easilly.

I am glad to hear from someone that listens to her music.
