I am trying to translate some sentances from my course and I am confused by use of the word "hiç". For example:

Köçük cokuk hıç yemek yemiyor.
The little children are not eating their food.

Sibel hiç kıtap okumuyor, ders çalişmiyor.
Sibel is not reading, not studying

Onlar hiç Turkçe bilmiyolar.
They do not know Turkish

I have translated how I think, but dont why hiç ıs usedç

Hiç stretches the negativity in the sentence:

Sınav için çalışmadım (I didnt study for the exam)
Sınav için hiç çalışmadım (I didnt study for the exam at all)

Onlar Türkçe bilmiyorlar (They dont know Turkish)
Onlar hiç Türkçe bilmiyorlar (They dont know any Turkish (at all)).

By the way, in the first sentence küçük çocuk is not plural.

Did you translate it TR-ENG or did you write this sentence? Because I think a comma would be appropriate here in Turkish:

Bebek çok küçük, henüz yürümüyor
The baby is very small, it isnt walking yet.

Çok küçük bebek henüz yürümüyor
The very small baby isnt walking yet.

I copied it and yes I missed the comma! Well spotted. Yes I realise now about the first sentance. My mistake! I keep trying to switch between English Keyboard and Turkish keyboard.

Didnt wanna be a smartass but when u see the comma, u also see the translation faster

And its a bitch to switch keyboards all the time. Using Gökhans laptop now, which is set in English (some football programme wont run on turkish settings) after I finally got used to Turkish one isnt really practical!
