It means "which", when the answer would be an ordinal number (first, second, third..)
I've seen the expression "how manieth", but it's not proper English I think.
Example:
Kaçıncı sınıftasın?
Beşinci sınıftayım
Which class are you in?
I'm in the fifth class.
In your example it is rather difficult to literally translate what you mean in Turkish.
I'd stick to "which president of Turkey / Turkish president was Süleyman Demirel."
or maybe "How many presidents of Turkey were there before Süleyman Demirel".

I think in this case we should avoid word to word translation..however, we can use:
1. what's Süleyman Demirel's rank amoung the Turkish presidents.
or
2. what's Süleyman Demirel's chronogical order amoung the Turkish presidents.

Yes, I have always thought this same question. There is no direct way to say this in english. Rather strange.

i dont think there is an exact 'word' but one might say:
'standing term or standing position maybe ?
He stood (his term) as the 15th President.

I saw some discussions about this one. Some say "how manyth" is OK in English but not everybody does use it.
Just google "how manyth".

Yes, there are quite some! And "how manyth" sounds much better to me than the alternatives some people come up with..
I checked a couple of dictionaries and it's not in there though.
Maybe an English native speaker could enlighten us?

Well I'm a native English speaker and I have never in my life heard anyone say 'how manyth'!!! The only google references I can see are people asking if this word exists.
