I just recently attended a 401k (retirement plan) seminar and the speaker was talking about ways he could save money by cutting back on his spending.
I went home and rexamined my ways of wasteful spending.

Here are my examples;
-I have had a gym membership for 3 years now and have been probably 10 times at the most. Let's see that's $50 a month x 36 months = $1800 annually wasted

-I spend $2.99 a day for coffee = $2.99 x 5 days a week = $14.95 a week = $777.40 annually. When my lazy self could make coffee at home.

-I spend $4.25 on a pack of cigarettes a day $4.25 x 364 days = $1,547 annually. On something that is going to kill me.

-I spend $45.00 a month on pedicures and manicures. $45.00 x 12 months = $540.00 annually. When I could do this myself.

Ok, I know it's sickening almost five thousand dollars in just the above and for what? Not to mention the fast food I eat.. How do you waste money?

I cant even think about what I waste money on.....I am still recovering from the fact that your cigarettes are SO CHEAP! They are £5.50 per pack of 20 in the UK - so we pay over DOUBLE what you do

...who cares about money? I bet you enjoyed your manicures and pedicures etc.?

I worry more about the TIME I waste - life is too short

(We wont need a retirement plan anyway, because we wasted our money on smoking so will die early ! Good news eh? lol )

Yea ur right, who cares about money. I use my money in the maintenance of myself, food, my clothings, make-ups, accessories, shoes, bags, parlor for my hair to do my monthly relaxing, hot oil and cellophane, foot spa and body steaming, to include manicure and pedicure and tips ehhee so many. But still, i spend money in a worthwhile reasons because i support financially three scholars in college level, 2 high schools and 1 primary level.I also do marketing and pay all my bills for electric, DSL and cellphone.
I had paid my pension plan, memorial plan, and death insurance.

I never thought of it that way. I'll be dead before I can retire. Oh well, I'll continue to enjoy my pedicures and my marlboro lights then. Or another thought could be to buy a farm and grow tobacco.

i waste money on cheap items, thinking that i could save much on them, meanwhile those cheap products are not of good quality, be it food or clothing, which makes me buy more clothing, and on food i cheat myself and myself only (cheap food isnt healthy food). im greedy!
i re-thought, and want better food, but still have to convince my husband who also cheats himself.
i do not use cosmetics, except for a lip balm (about $1 a half year).
no smoking , no drinking !
i dont spend much money on clothing.

i must be scottish!

im a bit bored tonight.

To Pizza: I think the topic here is about "wasting money" You certainly are not wasting it, but using it to live nice. It is the second thought that strikes me though: How come you have got so much time to "spend your money"? Those beauty salon or spa stuff, and then the weekend fiesta, plus the much demanding job...not to mention online learning and hanging around

The biggest thing I wasted money with once was with laziness. I didnt return the books from the library for such a long time, just couldn't be bothered, that I had to pay over 40 euros for nothing.

I don't think I waste money so much. Since Turkey I have grown more conscious about how things in life are not to be taken for granted to much, so I try to put money aside and work for what I want to come true.

Then there's the question.. what's wasting money? I used to get angry when my mum tried to make me eat my food by saying 'The children in Africa have nothing, think about that!' Now I know it was about appreciation and waste, but then I wondered how my empty plate was gonna help a poor kid.

As long as I appreciate what I have and can obtain, I wont feel an occasionally ordered bacon and cheese toasty in the İrish pub as a waste of money just because I could have made that at home too.

I guess as long as you know where your money is going and your ok with it, it's not wasted.

Honestly, I had to write down everything I spent my money on before I could tell you where it went. Then I was horrified when I realized where it was going.

I personally don't cook too much, so I'm constantely eating out all the time. I don't bring my lunch to work either, too lazy to fix it at home.

My mother also use to make us eat everything off of our plate, before we were excused. The same thing "What about all the kids who are starving". Ironically enough I adopted this into my adult hood. So when my mother says, your starting to gain weight. I just tend to blame her for instilling this in me.

Lots of bellydance costumes! They are not wasted because I dance professionally and they paid for themselves. But could that money go for other things? Yes probably.

I'm actually saving my money for my travelling to different countries but I have to admit I do waste a little now and then.
For e.g I have to indulge in a little chocolate now and maybe a new movie to watch.

Everything else I don't spend too much on (clothes etc). I think the one thing I did spend alot on was my 80gb iPod which was around $630 with 3 years cover
Oh and my laptop but these things are not waste I actually need them for certain things, like work and travel. So I have a good excuse

My mom and my sis usually hang out with me at the shopping malls each weekends, and for some reason i don't know they always either forget their credit cards or wallets when they buy lots of clothes.. I still do not understand how they keep getting me each weekends. :-S
