But you don't need to worry much aenoş since you live happly in UK with headscarved muslims wandering around if one day Turkey ever becomes the Islamic Republic of Turkey. And me too, I have french passport, I do not have to return there.

As catwoman is here, I want to ask: you only care the forum rules when there are many people speak who are against to your ideas?
You say, "political issues are forbidden" but you are very relax when someone call a the prime minister of a country by his first name because he doesn't have the same ideas with him? (you may look at the first posts of this thread)
I have already lost my trust to moderators. There is no one who tries to be objective even a little.

Catwoman!!
I never expected YOU to accuse me of allowing any man to change my views! I dont support any party here, I am just making a point. Just speaking facts as I see them. Convert to Islam? An old agnostic like me?
What trip? Have I been on a trip? I spent last week partying in Cowes (about 10 mins from my home) Does that count?

phew secular mltm ..you are making me laugh..poor you..still call yourself secular are you saying nearly 50 % of people vote AKP for only bread? this means " turks are so stupid that they can not see what is good for them..but we secular white turks can think about everything instead of them." |
You have already made me laugh my ciko.
I will not go on with this useless debate with you.
If we make a profil of an average turks, I'm sure we will not have very promising results and we can go hours listing the reasons why people voted for AKP, and ofcourse among them there's the cause of religion as well.
And I do not like the white turk thing. My skin is white but I'm a normal Turk. I'm just a normal person who uses her brain, not trying to think for all people. I worry for the future of my country, which is my right, since this is also my country! Or does 47% vote mean that they can do whatever they want? Now, they censor everything, they have 80% of the media, and now we cannot even have the right to worry for the secularism of our counrty just because we are not among the 47%?? |
i am doing public relations job and i can see average Turk profile much properly than you. and we all know the reason of AK party's increasing their votes was overruled presidental elections.
and white Turk thing is not about your skin colour. you could be white Turk even if you were black anyway i wont go on this useless debate too. your brain is too static to discuss about such a thing. no matter what i say! and also.. no 47 % can do anything they want as long as they are loyal to laws..like all over the world ..well..actually i am not sure..we all know even the leader ( primie minister) who got 60 % of votes in this country was killed by our dear patriot army..but they hung him for only this country eh? same lies for 60 years..i am sure you would support that too.. dont talk about your thoughts in france. they would laugh at you!
people may think i am defending AK pary. i dont..i just try to say it is time to change for Turkey..it is time to beat our fears which has prevented us to be a strong state. we have always had enemies or fears..our dear state's enemy was islamic movement first ( most of them were hung)..then communists ( thousands of them were killed..for this country)..then kurdish..now again islam ..those who want to keep their vital positions will always create an enemy which normal people cant see. but it is time to show some narrow minded putschist militarist idiots that Turkey is a democratic country! and i feel sorry to see some foreigner are as blind as some nationalis turks in this country.

I just HATE elitism. Who exactly are arguing this point here? An ex-pat Austrian-American living in Istanbul, a highly educated Turk living in Dubai, a Polish/Kazakhstani anti-Islamist and an affluent girl living in both France and Turkey!!! Hardly representative of the Turkish people.
80% of Turkish are muslim, so are they saying that 80% of the population are not eligible to be President?
Yes, an Muslim President COULD, at his/her most extreme turn Turkey into an Islamic state OR they could also continue Turkey’s secular position with more sympathy to religious faith and continue progress in Turkey’s economic and democratic progress with less division and more support from the whole population.
Turkey is in a unique position (as everybody knows) and some are keen for it to become part of the “westâ€. The US will happily pour as much money as it can into fulfilling the dreams of these elite Istanbulians. Turkey should stand alone (as it has throughout history) and achieve things THEIR way. More will be gained in the long term from Turkey remaining TURKISH than from Turkey becoming the 51st State of the US.
Just my view…

So is this what we have to look forward to as Tayyip consolidates power? This is a disgrace...
(couldn't do the correct text in the title by the way, sorry) |
This thread really started about freedom of the press, which I consider a pillar of a country's democracy. When Büyükanıt made his position on secularism known in April, I supported him. But, if he would have pressured the media to sack those press members that criticisized him, he would have lost my support.
No middle eastern country to this point has survived on its own with a purely democratic government. Turkey is not in that position either...yet. The need for Kemalism and the rejection of islamic law influenced style government is just as crucial today as it was 80 years ago. Turkey will find its own way.

yes we have to remain Turkish but.. Russia is getting bigger and stronger.. so is China. and America and EU..we need to belong to or be ally of any of these blocks.. i dont think we can stand alone in such a world.even UK depends US.. how can Turkey be completely free when we have such economical relations with america and other big countries.
of course we need to keep being Turkish but even if you protect your state from US or EU people will be affected by american culture because of TV and other things anyway. are we out of topic?
