Let me try and understand.......

Değerlim arkadışim ben Türkce bıraz konuşuyorum ve çok konuşmak istiyorum.
"My valuable friends, I want to talk in Turkish and talk lots."

çünkü ünıversıtede türkçe anlamıyorum ve çok seviyorum!
"because it gives meaning to university Turkish and I very much like that!"

I'm far from sure that I have understood that right!!!

How strange - I always thought it was much more formal. The way you would address your bank manager or solicitor, that sort of thing!

Possibly I got that idea because "Selam dur" is a military term......

i dont know about the military side of thangs.. considering that im a female who has grown up in the UK! although, i believe "selam" is a much more informal way to say "hello"
i would translate it to "hi" actually
