Quoting bod:

Are the following correct???

kediler yok ***kedi yok
There are no cats

yarın kediler yokacak
Tommorrow there will be no cats

**yarın kedi olmayacak

in this sentence we prefer to make it "singular" as "plural" sounds weird when you speak

As far as I know we use plural endings in Turkish talking about people and we don't use them for animals, plants and inanimate objects.

So 'yok' and 'var' can only be used to express the current situation. They cannot be used for future - for that 'olmak' has to be used??? What about past???

Can I say:
kedi yokdı
there were no cats

Yes of course - silly me

So what you are saying is that "yok" can be used for past and present but not for future - is that right???

I think so - 'var' and 'yok' are used for past and present, olmak is used for future.......

kedi yoktu - there were no cats
kedi yok - there are no cats
kedi olmayacak - there will be no cats

it should be "yoktu" not "yokdu" becouse of the consonant harmony

Don't worry!!! You've certainly improved your Turkish and such mistakes are not mistakes actually, just misprints

"yarın kediler yok olacak" is also a perfectly good sentence in Turkish, but it does not mean "there will be no cats tomorrow, they will all be taken away".

It would mean "there will be no cats tomorrow, they will all be killed"
