I am obviously on the wrong site then, so I would like to offer my sincerest apology for interrupting your site. That is not sarcasm, but an actual apology. I obviously don't belong here. Take care and good luck in your travels. If I post again, I will simply do my best to ignore the comments that bother me and hope that I can somehow still extract some good information for those willing to offer and maybe PM with those individuals. Again, I'm very sorry for having interrupted your site and best of luck to each and every one of you and I hope that you continue to enjoy this site.

People are only happy if those around them are as miserable as they are. Keep that in mind. All in all, the majority of people here are really cool and decent. Try to ignore it if you can.

Ok...back to the original post. Are you going to charge this poor guy to have a conversation with him? Only well trained teachers could do anything with an ABSOLUTE beginner...especially in a week. I took the certification for TESL (teaching English as a second language) and they told us we should only teach intermediate and above. Real TESL teachers are bachelors level or above. Are you even a teacher? It is really unethical for you to charge this guy...maybe trade him for Turkish 'lessons'. He probably has the same teaching ability you do.

Hi all,
I am going to Istanbul on the 18th November to see my fiancee Nesrin and am looking forward to the trip. We put an advert in a local supermarket REAL, advertising English lessons, my English is not bad but I am no teacher. We received a phone call today asking is it possible to teach a Turkish man the basic English language, I am a bit concerned because I would like to help and take up the offer but my English is not to teaching standards and I only have a week in Istanbul hardly enough time to teach the basic English language.

What do the members here think? should this guy come to our apartment in Istanbul or shall I go to him, of course Nesrin has to be there to translate some Turkish as he cannot speak any English at all. Would love some advice
Thanks

Hi Richard,

Maybe hard to say, but if you are not an experienced teacher AND you only have one week, I don't think (being a teacher myself) you will be able to teach that man on a qualified base. However, if you want to try anyway, you can use the TPR-method (just google on TPR and you get many links like http://www.tpr-world.com/ ) in which case you don't need a translator. Wish you luck.

Femme, how is your post helpful or even remotely appropriate? I have been attempting to respectfully ask that you please limit your comments to the topic at hand. I sincerely would appreciate it. If you don't wish to do so, then I have no choice but to abandon this site. Perhaps that is what your ultimate goal is...who knows. Very sad.

dear polyanna,
i heard you are leaving
a good luck from the DUDU analysing club!
we hope you be happy with your DUDU wherever you are!

MAN, I AM GETTING TIRED OF PEOPLE WANTING TO LEAVE OR AT LEAST NOT BEING ABLE TO ENJOY THIS SITE ANYMORE. I AM TIRED THAT NO-ONE CAN ASK FOR A TRANSLATION ABOUT LOVE AND ROMANCE ANYMORE WITHOUT BEING INSULTED AND ALL THE GUYS BEING CALLED DUDUS. IM TIRED OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SENDING THE GIRLS SUCH HORRIBLE PRIVATE MESSAGES ABOUT HOPING THE GUY LEAVES THE GIRL, ABOUT THE GIRL BEING SILLY AND NAIVE FOR HAVING FEELINGS FOR HER TURKISH BOYFRIEND. WHAT IS THE POINT?

save your throat, girl.
if you are tired then get some rest instead of shouting pointless english words.

but we are not tired of reading, as you say, romantic affairs endlessly taking place between dudus and "smart" ladies from the west.

i just wonder what extremely clever people spam you with horrible msgs like :ABOUT HOPING THE GUY LEAVES THE GIRL, ABOUT THE GIRL BEING SILLY AND NAIVE FOR HAVING FEELINGS FOR HER TURKISH BOYFRIEND? are they stupid cows?

Hi Babiabdancer74,
I never said that I was a qualified teacher and I am only wanting to help this guy learn the basic English language, Nesrin thought it was a good idea for me to teach someone what I know is my best subject English, I never think of money that was not the first thought that came into my head.

I enjoy meeting new people and have quite a few Turkish friends and I really enjoy conversing with them, my small amount of Turkish and their little English makes for some intresting and enjoyable conversations and who knows this guy might become a friend. I am very flexible kind of guy and do not think straight away about how much I should charge him for lessons. I met a Turkish girl in England and helped her with directions in my home town let her use my computer took her out for a meal and stayed intouch, later when I asked her to learn me some basic Turkish she immediately replied I will charge you this much, I think you are a little unfair in your comments!

May I just point out Polyanna (meyo722) that it was YOU who have spoiled this thread. Please have more respect.

You have asked many many question yes, on many many threads. Have you ever thought of searching this site to see if you can find answers? Most such topics have been well covered before

Just an idea

Thanks for noticing AEnigma...and in fact I did answer the question to the best of my ability. Apparently some people didn't take it seriously.

I guess if polyanna was a little less sanctimonious and was actually reading the posts she would have noticed. I am far from perfect in my posts. Sometimes I just post exactly what I am thinking at the moment. Sometimes it is serious, or silly, or completely politically incorrect, and sometimes off topic. Nobody had posted on this thread for a day, and I think it was pretty safe to say that by mentioning something funny (Dudu) it got the thread going again. Although it was not the original intent of the thread, I don't see how adding a little levity could be so offensive. Some people on this site don't have any problem attacking people for their religion, ethnic background...ect..but DON'T try to make something silly...OH NO...you might offend someone.
