This is my second time in Turkey now and i wish to take back with me some herbs and spices that i cannot find in Bulgaria. Plus, while i am here i would like to feed my host some dishes from Bulgaria and England.

Is there a list of translated spices and herbs online or would someone be able to make me a list? Particularly for the spices Cumin and Turmeric???

Also,there is a herb in Bulgaria called Chewbrika or Chewbritza, is there a Turkish equivalent of this?

Cardanom
star anise

parsley
sage
rosemary
marjoram
curry
mustard

Can ı revert thıs thread back to ıts orıgınal subject? I do love tea and the graceful Turkish glasses BUT i'm more interested at present in the Turkish names for the normal herbs and spices i use around the home.

As a coeliac (Choliak in Turkish) i am not fortunate enough to eat out as most food is dipped, battered or fried in batter, breadcrubs or whatever which i am unable to eat. Therefore my food is quite bland at present.

I'd VERY MUCH like to know the names of the herbs and spices listed. Can anyone out there help me with this??

Redhouse publish a great book American Cook in Turkey that lists all sorts of translations for kitchen items (e.g. cuts of meat, herbs etc etc). It also has a lot of recipes in English that can be made with ingredients available in Turkey.

It is Sunday so I am not at the Greenhouse bookstore, so I don't have access to Redhouse's book for youi but I will try to translate the ones I know.
