Those who symphatize with ladies running after their rights to wear turban as an expression of their personal freedom, should know the difference between "freedom of women" as we understand today, and "freedom of women" as understood among the Arabs around the time of Prophet Muhammad, to fully appreciate that ladies are - once again - being used.

In Arab society, around the time of Muhammad, there were two kinds of women,
1. The slave women (cariye), with no marriage ties to any man, who dressed very freely and considered to be of easy virtue,
2. Married women, officially registered as one man's domain, hence considered to be of higher and more respectable virtue and social standing compared to the former.

To differentiate between the two groups and avoid the harrasment (by others) for (2), the married women were required to cover themselves when they left the safety and privacy of their own homes. The message was that these ladies were in the private domain of a certain gentleman and that they were not available to others. In a sense, the hijab or whatever signified that these women were not slaves. That they were free (!).

The women in group (1) had no right to cover themselves, in a way that could mislead others to believe that they belonged to group (2). They were not free.

This was what being a FREE WOMAN was about 1400 years ago.

Are moslem ladies of today after the same kind of freedom? I think they are being manipulated.

some of women feel theirself more free by wearing mini skirt and some of em feel theirself more free when cover their bodies, which one of us have any right for judging their freedom perspective unless this diversities doesn't forced each other for to be look like theirself.Theres never place for doubles standarts in real democracy or secular system...i think we have to be more interested in with personalites then their life stylies or perspectives ,so a real democracy's mission to keep all diversities side by side with the mental, rational, objective ,legal rules for creat more peacfull and tolerated societies, namely democracy is never a toy any social, ethnical, religional,or benefit groups...

I dont care what part of their bodies they want to cover...so long as they do not think that is what freedom is.

This is a man's game !
It was in Prophet's time...It is now!

This has nothing to do with the subject. Men are fashion models too. Both make a nice amount of money from it, and it is THEIR choice to do so

Sorry I don't really understand you MrX67. You were talking about fashion and advertising models. There are men and women in this industry, and they are mostly fully clothed when working (I don't know about Turkey though - judging by your newspapers, I would guess Turkey prefers semi-naked women in their advertisements...)

Of course anyone can imagin whatever he wants, and do what ever he wants ,or she
Thats why it called FREEdom!

Anyway,as long as you were refering to arab old days,i want to point at something you've missed it
Arab women were not submissive to their men.
Remind you,who had killed Rasul's SAV uncle 'Hamza'?and how ?
So i believe that was beyond submissive behaviour
And beside, its bad excuse to take away people's freedom of wearing what they want, dont you think?!

Communism? I've done that and really, you have no idea what you're wishing for. Democracy is definitely not the best system, but there's nothing invented so far that would be better. Besides, democracy is not about extremists, they are marginal, what's in abundance is people free to exercise their right to believe whatever they want or wear whatever they want. Sure, absolute freedom cannot exist as I'm sure most of us wouldn't like to walk the streets and look at nudists or people having sex in public. However, what I'm sure most of us would like to see is people who are not decided for, who are not battered for speaking for themselves, people who can worship The Green Gook without being told they're wrong and who don't try to convince the world through terror that theirs is the just way.

i don't wanna see the discussions of Turban in this site. that's enough!

as you are feminist, Turban is not related to Turkish Republic and Islam and of course Kemalist fundamentals. Turban is an illogical belief and can't be identified as an individual freedom. It is also exploited by the USA supported Islamic politicians to abuse the religious Turkish people in Tukey.

don't u got it? if u got, why are u still going on emphasizing this issue? why don't you look at the creditable sources to gain real information about Turkish culture and islam?

that's a question, and you can't answer my question. go on ladies... making political-religious discussions is free for u, isn't it?

i don't wanna see the discussions of Turban in this site. that's enough!

as you are feminist, Turban is not related to Turkish Republic and Islam and of course Kemalist fundamentals.

Sorry adonis,
Ama..
I am a TURK.
And I love discussing my country's problems with the people who cares about my country.
THEY ARE FRIENDS..
What is the problem?

Of course, THEY ARE FRIENDS, MAYBE MY CLOSEST FRIENDS till they write polemical, insulting and illogical entries without making any inquisitions of a subject relating to Turkey's internal affairs. if they do it, i automatically make reaction to these entries, because I'm Turk and i wanna help the foreign people to learn Turkish culture based on creditable sources and information, if they really wanna learn anything about these subjects without hiding in the umbrella of Feminism. I'm sorry, i can't allow them to interfere our internal affairs. I have to protect my country's values...

look at Mrs Roswitha now. she gives up copying and pasting the absurd and non-realistic articles from Turkish Daily News. why? because, she has realized her fault and gives up doing it. I'm appreciating and thanking her very much. this is a correct and logical behavior. but where are the other ladiez?

that's a question...

by the way, the name of this site is Turkish Class, but where are u?

Gosh...I don't know how I can make this any clearer to you....it is not up to you to ALLOW us to do anything. Your controlling nature seems to make it difficult for you to understand this concept.

You take yourself FAR too seriously adonis.

I'm here to improve my English-Turkish translation in a short and quicker way, and help the foreign people to learn my language.

yes, those pics are mine and they imply that I trust myself. If u haven't got any nice pics, it's your problem, not mine...

I still dont understand what you mean by Turkey's internal affairs.
We live in a world that everybody knows everything (thanks to partly internet).
I know how british prime minister Tony Blair looked like a lap dog for G Bush for example and I can SAY IT. And nobody from british people will come back to me saying that 'oh no..you dont have right to say like that'. I go and I try to put G Bush into gutter for example, nobody tells me I am messing with the internal affairs of USA.

This is 'a right' for me..And I am using it.

As I said..I am a Turk..I would defend my country if and when necessary because I know my country very well. But I am not going to say to anybody that 'YOU DONT HAVE RIGHT TO TALK ABOUT THE TOPICS RELATED TO TURKEY'S INTERNAL AFFAIRS' as if I am afraid of talking my country's problems. I AM NOT.

I think you have been listening many comments coming from the army such as 'our external enemies interfering with the Turkey' Or Our politicians blaming internal and external enemies for everything.

Well you can listen to them..I have no objections..
But believing them by heart is somehow not right.

I am repeating again..I am sure most of the people here are friends of Turkey. You dont need to worry.
You are not between enemies.

As far as mrs roswitha is concerned, I am hoping what you wrote is not true.
So calm down..let people speak..
We have nothing to hide from anybody.

İts not about what you want adonis
İ want the world to be in peace,i want people to have better understanding of each others,i want...i want...
But things not happening always the way i want, yes?!

So,you cant stop people actually from talking and saying whatever they want,or believe what they want too
Better to hear it,and to know about it rather to close your ears pretending they dont say anything, yes ?!
And if you want, you can correct their view,or offer them another point of view, discuss it
and if you dont care,then...
Let them believe what they want,it wont make any difference to you anyway.
But SURELY,you cant stop people of talking!
