I would love to see Le Traviata again (my favourite), but dont think I will make it to Ankara

I adore opera! People seem to either love it or hate it, and I notice that most people who "hate it" invariably have never been to one!

With the Turks amazing talent in music, I bet it must be brilliant. I went to see Carl Orf Carmina Braun (however you spell it !!!) and sat in the front row, right in front of the tenor - not a good idea, I could see right up his nose and the temptation to pull a funny face was overwhelming !!!! sit in the middles next time - a much better place.

I love the London west-end musicals, not opera I know but musical and theatrical nonetheless. Miss Saigon - awesome !

Do you go to the theatre also to see plays ? There was a play in London last year which I heard about on Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Radio 2. The play is with that lady from Cheers Rhea Pearlman (something like that)who plays the housekeeper to a very rich airline pilot who has nurmeous women on the go. Do you know the name of this - I am back in London in a few months time and would love a theatre trip and this one sounded hilarious.

You could pm me the details if you know them. Thanks in advance Aenigma.

Beverly Sills, Callas...? The sound is very unpleasant to me. Baritone, Tenor...nice, but Sopranos...no way...it hurts my ears and caused the hairs all over my body to stand up....I do not like it....in fact it's revolting to me.

It's a matter of taste my dear. I'm sure there are things I love that you hate. That's what makes things interesting, no?

Very true (dont call me "dear" I hate it )
I know that many people feel the same way about opera - you are not alone. It has a completely different affect on me - but as you say, horses for courses

It was not until a few years ago that I started appreciating 'opera' this was when I traveled to London Back then I had the fortune to go to the Majesty Theatre to see the production of 'The Phantom of the Opera'... I really enjoyed it so much that a year after while I was in New York I decided to see the same production..
Since then I have a good appreciation for opera. I know many people dont like Opera, but it is true that many of these have not even been exposed to it..
Opera must be felt in order to enjoy it

I have seen your wide knowledge

I know perfectly that phantom of the opera is a musical, but see I refered to phantom of the opera song, I heard this with soprano Sara Brightman and also I heard phantom of the opera with soprano Tarja Turunen, both excellent heavenly voices, they are great, anyway thank you for your comment. We are talking here about opera not opera singers.

Exist also phantom of the opera by Iron Maiden but this is other sort of music.
