Are there any people in Turkey who would like sharia?

I'm just wondering how secular Turkish people are.. would they actually want politics to be based on Islam?

Oh yes, some of them definetely would. For the religious muslims, it can be acceptable. I would say their number is at least %7 (the votes their ultra Islamist party would get in the elections during later 1980s). No one know the exact figure now. Their party mutated over time and now they had 47% of the votes in the last election. So they are climbing. So it is something between 7% and 47% and that can only get higher in the future. It seems like that a Sharia state will be inevitable if nothing is done from now on. I am afraid they will get 57% or maybe 67% in the next elections.

Of course some of them would but to say they number between 7% - 47%? That is a HUGE disparity! There must be some more accurate figures you can quote from.

My point is if the number changes from 7% to 47% in about 20 years, they are definetely on the way to becoming a majority. No one knows the exact number but it's rising that's for sure.

And now we started to hear them talk freely. 2 weeks ago, I watched a program on TV. Somebody called and talked on the phone. When asked "do you want the Sheria state?", "if you are a Muslim, that's what Koran orders" he said. Program host asked "So men should marry 4 women, Men take 2/3 and women take 1/3 of inherited property, cut the hands of thieves, stone the women etc, do you want it?", "yes" he answered "that's what Sheria orders".

Thanks for your reply Si++, this is veeeeeeeeeery scary!
I agree with GG though that these numbers are a bit suspicious... there seems to be a little bit of paranoia from the nationalists that islamists will overtake the government...

I think Si is referring to the votes AK parti received in the last elections. I dont think that the majority of their voters is a devoted muslim. In my opinion, they voted for them because there was no better alternative (MHP is obviously no option, CHP's head is not very popular) and because its a fact that since Erdoğan is 'On the top', the economy has gone better. But for how long?
By going on the streets to reject a religious government in the mitingler of last summer, and then still voting for that party, shows how divided Turkey is: they gave a sign in which they showed they want the best for their country, but they want a secular government too.
So if your numbers are based on the votes for AKparti, I highly doubt that the number is that high. It is possible that it is between 7 and 47, but then it is definitely closer to 8 than to 46, so to speak.

i would call it hypocrasy, indifference, and laziness.
sorry, guys, but we share the same mentality. we as a nation want this and that(we want a strong economy, no doestic or foreign conflicts, better education, super healthcare system, good roads etc etc). and we think that a hero must come to fulfill our demands. but i think only a magican can carry out our expectations . and almost all politicians are magicans, they promise us to show miracles, but in fact they trick us with hocus-pocus.
and we again are in our own traps.
sharia will sooner be implemented in UK than in turkey.
in fact the shaddows of sharia always existed in a secular turkey.

Now back to the islamic thign and sharia I really don't think politics and goberment should be one, or the same or rule as one or whatever they are planning, just imagine all the handless thiefs there will be in the world 0.o
Besides turkish people should look at the other countries and what happened after choosing sharia like for example Iran but I know turkish people don't like to be compared to them sorry if I offended anyone

Two comments for you:
1) Do you know how to use punctuation?
2) Apparently you are not in the majority in your home country with your thoughts on the US. There seem to be hoardes of them crossing the border to get to this "unimaginable culture" every day.

Quoting elibrody: Thanks teaschip1
I hope I so can get into my new bikini and win this new amazing culture and love your beloved president Bush who is so smart |
Well maybe if your countries government wasn't so corrupt you could stop fleeing into the U.S. Another thought stop eating all of those burritos and you may fit into a bikini.

I thought it was YOUR culture? Maybe it's coincidence, but South America seems to be the home of the mini skirt

Hey Aenigma, maybe your body is not enough for wearing mini skirt and bikini. Besides, you are jealous for the beauty of elibrody. why not?
essentially, women are usually jealous for each other...
maybe, you have an inferiority complex because of not having a charming body and having a degenerated and uncivilized culture.
I also think that you would like to live under the rule of Sheria because wearing burkas and turban could fit your crinky and cellulited body, why not?
MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS! DON'T MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WELL... |
What you do right now with these words, is no different that with your claim on AenigmaIII...

Dear Adonis, next time you go jumping in to defend your girlfriend, please read the post first. Elibrody was saying that she didn't think it was right for women to wear revealing clothes, and I merely replied that I thought it was culture in South America to wear such clothes.
Is this personal? No.
Is your post personal? Yes
Goodnight

Whatever kisses for all of you
I admire you americans
All my loving I will send to you |
Elibrody, don't worry about your English. After all, this is a language class forum, so errors in language are to be expected.
You are doing very well, actually amazingly well. Much better than most here could do in Spanish. It seems some here do not realize Mexico is a multicultural country. Do you think they have heard of nopales, chayote, or yuca? Of course not.

What really amazes me is how dear members like Alameda and Peace Train support your views when you post insulting crap like the above!!! You can certainly judge people by their friends.
God bless Turkey

There wasn't a comment about elibrody's english, it was a comment on the use of punctuation. You should get your facts straight.
