A good point? This man should not be given air time on here or on any media!

"The Iranian foreign minister also criticized the lack of family stability in Western countries and said basic social structures like the family have virtually lost all meaning, having been replaced by such morally reprehensible social bonding as seen among homosexuals. "

People are free to do what they like, it is not always to our liking, but they are free. However, "structures like the family" have certainly NOT broken down. I wonder how many western TC members here would say they do not belong to a solid family unit?

"Commenting on the role of Muslim women in their societies, Mottaki said it was incumbent upon the people and governments of Islamic states to provide every possible means for the full and constructive participation of women in all fields of social activity." lol lol lol

(Will believe this when I see it)

AE! I was just pasting the same fragment

What else could an Iranian say? Would you really like to see the world as it is over there with its "family" values, free from homosexual perverts etc? Don't forget that one of the things that keeps this system of values going is the thought that women are inferior to men. That ensures the peace. Women know their place. The community is ok with 12-year-olds being forced to marry. Is that a value reform you want to see in the corrupt west?

I hope we are not sharing the same brain too

Daydreamer, do you come from a solid family unit? Do most of your friends?

Or are you busy sleeping with a different man everynight and doing immoral things? Do I? Do any of my friends?

This kind of "evil west" propaganda is utter crap.

My parents have been married for 31 years now and they're still absolutely in love with each other so I'd say my family can be considered quite a solid one.

As for me, I'm no prude, nor do I claim marrying my husband as a virgin but I wouldn't call my conduct obscene whatsoever. I believe two adults have the right to have sex with each other regardless of their sex. As long as they are willing to shoulder consequences of their actions.

Exactly, just as "virtuous east" is. My Turkish friends sleep with girls wearing headscarves and I'm sure if it wasn't for the fear of stoning same things would take place in more rigid societies.

My parents are still married and in love too, as is my sister and her husband.
I guess we must be in the minority eh? According to this crap lol

Even where my friends have divorced, they still retain solid families.

seems still a high wall between west&east,so people trying to judge each other from behind to wall by don't show any effort for climb on wall for know each other better?thats really great stuff for who feeding for their selfish political aims?Sure there will be always deep cultural differences, but i think thats never barrier for understand each other better...And i think we forget ethical rules never in monopoly of east or west and easy to see most of realities same for all of us when we look at to events by objective glasses..Life singing to same song to all of us just with different tunes,so better to catch common notes

what annoys me is that people compare bikini with burka. thus they show they arent using the logics at all.

first of all, let us look at the percent of western women who walk, work and live in bikini everyday: 0%

does any of you in the west go shopping in bikini?

they wear bikini when they on the beach sunbathing. which maybe happens once a year and maybe a week or so.

second, lets look at the percent of easttern and western (muslim) women who cover themselves with hijab/niqab/burka, they walk, work and live in tents. can we say 0% about covered women? it is around more than 80-90%

calling westerners degradated they hide their own backwardness.

Why are no westerners screaming IN CAPITAL LETTERS for this thread to be locked? Why has nobody used any swear words yet or invoked the help of God?

Someone should PM Ros and "politely" request her to remove this thread because it insults "westernness"

I can't read the link it states an error has occured in the application, so hard to comment. But I will say this, I don't hold much regard for what an Iranian Prime Minister has to say regarding the west. I think his own country has a hell of alot more issues to deal with than worrying about the wests family values. I think he needs to take a serious inventory check regarding his own backwards country.

West / East....Day / Night ......Take the snapshot quick ...!
Look at the picture now.....
That's right ...different views....diff opinions....religions...beliefs...clothes...
bikinis....burkas....speedos....nothing....anything.
( why does it always center around women?...)

That's all there is to it. Words are harmless.
News reports can damage because it gets the masses riled up....angry...
...bitter....enraged....mad....you name it.
Don't fall for the bread that they throw at you ....as in the days
of the Gladiators.....!

THAT'S THEIR JOB...! SELL SELL SELL.....

Who gives a peacock's feathers what women wear wherever...?
Let them wear what they want. The West is not corrupt....factions
of business are....some people are....but the West itself ? No.
Niether is the East....same deal.

Let families think and grow rich. Things happen...Feelings change....
Situations change a family....marriage....finances....relationships....

East and West should check the log in your own eye before accusing
the other about the splinter in the OTHER'S eye.....

It all plays out in time......

The big ' V ' to all.....

pssst Girleegirl, a little word in your ear.

Just about everyone on this site is a "stalker". Everyone jumps in during discussions, it's what these forums are for. Now if you're talking about unwanted pms, then that's another story, that's a dreadful thing to do. Something many of us on this site have never done . . . sent an unfriendly pm.

Stalking? Silleegirl . . . and so ironic. Well done!

Get your vernaculars straight....unwanted pm's....that is called "spamming" and I said nothing about spamming.
Funny though that you would be the one to respond to my post...and with such a defensive tone!!

I know perfectly I will be quotes as a muslim candidate, and you will probably say that woman was he right to do whatever she pleases with her body but I do consider sometimes ( most of the time) what people wears in unacceptable.

I am 19 and sure sometimes I wear provocative stuff, but it's sad for example when I go to my sister's highschool and I see some of the class mate in a mini skirt and a blouse that nearly covers them and still they complain about guys saying stuff, if they wear something like that what do they expect?

I am not saying the solution is wearing a burka or something like that but with time people has started to confuse freedom with licentiousness

You may stone me to death but I need to share my teaching experience here. A while ago in Poland there were numerous cases of girls harassed by their male classmates (one of them ended in suicide). The principal of a neighbouring school summoned one student's mother as the clothes her daughter was wearing for school were, euphemistically speaking, indecent. In other words, her top barely covered her nipples. The mother felt insulted and lectured the principal on the rights of personal freedom as well as accused her of being jealous of the young students sex appeal. The principal then replied that, fine, if the mother agrees to hand in a written statement acquitting the principal of any kind of liability in case of any harassment on behalf of the boys.

I believe women have the right to wear whatever they want. Still, contrary to what most easterners say, it doesn't mean that all westerners wear mini skirts and show their cleavage. Most working places have their dressing code.

However, if a woman decides to wear provocative clothes, she should be ready to shoulder the consequences. I cannot understand women who dress like hookers and then complain that men comment on them. You get what you give. Of course, I am far from justifying crimes here. No matter how a woman is dressed, it should be no excuse for rapists.

Nope, I think people are just as they've always been. You know, past generations always complain about the young ones being devoid of moral spine. But it is due to the fact that we no longer are those young people and we don't really know how they are. In fact, they are not so different from how we used to be. It just looks different from our today's perspective.

What is it exactly that you find so terrible about young people nowadays?

Mrx
You have to look at the events from the top a bit.
Think of your father. He was possibly worrying about the way you are worrying now..and think of your grand father. Possibly, he was the same.
I know from my grand father and my father.
Both of them thought that moral values were disappearing.
But actually, they dont..They are just evolving..changing with the time.
All moral and ethical values change with the time. That is the thing wont change..

We/you should get used to it..

well first my aim never blaming youth or make a generalization about them, and sure they r the guaranties of a lighter future, and sure life perspective changing for each new generation depend to many reasons, but i believe that crime and guiltiness getting more each new day as the reflection of unlimited freedom understanding..anyway i trust power of youth and youngs

I was trying to find crime rates by country but I couldn't find it. Instead, I found a site with homicide rates. If you scroll down the page, you'll see the rate in 2000s. Actually it hasn't risen considerably, in some countries it's even decreased. You also have to take into account countries with war.

Anyway, see for yourselves:

I think the media is much to blame as well. S*x/s*xy images is the number one thing for selling almost everything nowadays, even kitchen cupboards and cat food. Look at the smut there is on some tv programmes from all over the world, look at the way the newspapers are smuttily (is that a word ) put together - you only need to look at milliyet, hurriyet (which are supposed to be of a better class) and you will see on the online versions "click here for the perfect woman" "typic kadınlar" " seksi kadınlar resim" - and also such trash like the sun, star in UK. Men are hopelessly (in most cases) drawn to these images and the ordinary woman, I believe, often feel that that image is what they need to live up to. Look at the types of music clips that popstars produce, the virtual porn some female popstar degrade themselves to to sell records, and likewise the male popstars use s*x to sell their ego-boosting music to young men.

I think that it is getting totally mixed up and this poor young generation think that s*x and image is the only thing that is going to get them somewhere in life ! It is downright abuse ! and it is so sad !

I will get off my soap box now.

One of the biggest problems is that people are not judged as individuals. We are all judged by the region/country that we live in even if we do not share the same ideas as the majority.

America's moral values have changed dramatically in the last 30 years. Our society is definately changing and obviously not for the better since crime rate, drug abuse, pornography and many other things that are degrading have increased. What's interesting to note is that every major society/government ie. Roman, Egypt, Greece, Ottaman etc. has eventually self-destructed as their morality has declined. Does that mean we are as a nation headed for self-desctruction.

http://facistamerica.blogspot.com/2004/11/american-moral-values.html

Roswitha....I do agree to some extent. But there is one thing that you may not have concidered. Back before there where organizations (CDC, WHO, Department of Health and Human Services in every state) that tracked and trended things like drug use (for example) we had no real way of telling how rampant these things were or were not. Some of these trends have actually improved over the past few years. In fact, on a daily basis I see far more good than bad. I don't personally know anyone who is addicted to drugs or who is a prostitute or porn star. Do you?

I am proud of my country and I know we are not a cespool of immoral decay and I am tired of people reading a few articles here and there, or seeing a few movies and thinking that they know the American people. Don't ever let people tell you that this is not a great country....nobody else invented the car or the airplane or put a man on the moon first...Yes, the US government has done some terrible things in it's history (and continues to do so today) but that will never erase the good we have done.

QUOTING PRESIDENT CARTER:The greatest challenge is the growing chasm between rich people and poor people not only inside of a country but rich nations and poor nations," Carter says. "There has never been an administration in Washington before in history that has so dramatically favored the extremely rich people in this country at the expense of poor and working class families. Every major tax change has been to take taxes away from the rich and put it on the poor and working class people. And this, I think, was vividly demonstrated when you saw the aftermath of Katrina. It just shows what's always been there. And that is that poor people are the ones who suffer most

Actually, I think things are making a big change now. You can see it in the current US election. There is a massive cry for change.

The battle between "good" and "bad" is an ongoing battle. It's cyclic. Then, rarely is anything pure black or white, they are shades between, many shades.

One day I was getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist. I thought I'll be back doing this all over again in a few months, but if I don't keep it up, I'll loose my teeth.

This struggle is on going. Like the dust that covers all surfaces, leave it alone and you have a project for archaeologists.
