I wanted to share this celebration with everybody as a turkish citizen. but as usual they find something to criticize. coz we are "narrow-minded".

I don't believe anyone considers you narrow minded. However, from what I have read, your posts seem to mostly include references to your own political ideals and seem somewhat nationalistic. For some, this can be hard to stomach...

The day everyone agrees on politics is the day the world ends

Janissary is a Turk so is it something strange that he refers in his post to national history and heritage.Nationalistic????Perhaps patriotic???Ahhh, everybody who is proud of his own country must be a nationalist and ksenophob I forgot how easy is to judge..and for those who have problems with digestion...herbs...herbs...herbs

sekerim, we are as nationalist as you...

is this a complement ,canim?

Well I just want to say Thank you as I forgot that today was children's day. I quickly called Turkey to give my love to the children in the family. I know that it is very important for them and they make it a very nice family day.

This is another thing that I love about Turkey. Family is very important and respected. Traditions are carried on.

Although I don't think that they got the balance completely right, it is good that families care about each other.

maybe nobody on tc knows...

21st november 2005, Uğur Kaymaz, a 12 year old boy (and his father) was killed in an operation "against pkk" in Mardin, turkey... a 12 year-old boy killed for being a member of a terrorist organization... he was shot dead by 13 bullets 8 of which fired from 50 cm distance...

the tragedy goes on: 4 policemen who shot him dead are still being judged of "shooting wrong target for 2-6 years imprisonment out of fear and panic" while Uğur's widowed mother is accused and being judged for 15 years imprisonment for being member of terrorist organization...

me and hundred thousands living in turkey are sure that policemen will go free soon and the mother will get the 15 years imprisonment...

yesterday, was 23rd april... children's day! Uğur Kaymaz was a child.. most probably he would have read a poem blessing the turkish nation today in the ceremony at his school if his bones hadnt been decayed today...

you people wont be able to make me believe 23rd april is a day for peace! it is simply not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is not a day for the children, it is a day for children to praise Atatürk, as usual his picture is plastered everywhere. I wonder if this is what he intended when he declared this holiday..? Is it not more important to focus on children's rights etc. on this day, indeed in this country where playing on dirty trafficated streets is a normal thing for children?

I was %100 sure before I posted this that some of members on this site will criticize this as usual and others will support you. You are against everything about turkey, not only Ataturk. you and some of your friends keeps accusing Ataturk all the time.

How about getting some professional help Janissary before your paranoia gets you seriously? Azade was not critical of Ataturk or the holiday and no other member even commented on her post before you attacked her for nothing.

So, you disagree with her? Are there no problems children face in Turkey? Are you sure Ataturk meant this day as a celebration of his very own person rather than focusing on children? Did he ever say anything like - on April 23rd, put my posters up on every wall and let children worship me? It's pretty hard to imagine given that he was a good leader. Of course, I am not Turkish so I know nothing about him but I like to believe that what makes people great are their actions, not what people make of them after they die. How do you know he wouldn't smack you on the butt for worshipping him but not doing anything to continue his idea? (Mind you - talking about how great he was will not improve your country. Instead of praying to him, do something that would make him proud of you, make children's life better for example)

NOBODY, but nobody kills a 12 years old and brush it off simply saying that 'he was a terrorist'.
Whoever kills childeren, they are terrorist and child killers themselves.
And my country does NOT deserve this and those child killers.
