Tutmak does mean to hold or engage. But "ev tutmak" is used to get a house or rent a house, as an alternative to saying ev kiralayabilirim.
Often a Turk will ask Kaça tuttunuz? Literally: how much did you hold it for i.e. how much do you pay in rent?
