Maybe some students dont know the meaning of the words in below. Therefore it can be difficult for complete beginners doing the homeworks of Noun State.

Verbs:

"gidiyor" = "S/he/it is going"

"gidiyorum"  = "I am going"

"gidiyorsun" = "you are going"

"gidiyoruz" = "we are going"

"geliyor" = "S/he/it is coming"

"geliyorum" = "I am coming"

"geliyorsun" = "you are coming"

Could you please tell me on what occasion would you use te or ta as opposed to de or da ... i refer to one of our lessons as below :

Locative case: -de, -da, -te, -ta (in Ankara, Ankara´da)

I think this is because of the consonant harmony, as it is explained in our lesson:

CASE B - Suffix mutation.

Two conditions must be satisfied for suffix mutation to occur:

1. You have a word ending with one of ´p, ç, t, k, f, h, s, ş´.
2. You want to add this word a suffix that starts with ´c´ or ´d´.

In this case, the first letter of the consonant changes.

• c becomes ç
• d becomes t

 Examples to this would be:

Leh --> Polish (people)

Leh-ce --> Lehçe --> Polish (language)

Türk --> Turkish (people)

Türk-ce --> Türkçe --> Turkish (lanuage)

yap --> do

yap-di --> yaptı --> he did

Absolutely loving the class.  Have completed the 1st set of homework and have done so much better than I thought I would.  My hubby (who is Turkish) offered to help me with my homework, to which I refused (otherwise, how on earth will I learn) and I got it right....all by myself I´m amazed!!! Thanks Gencturk, you´re a great teacher, I´ve learnt more this week than all the months trying to teach myself !!!

i have question about section 2 Constant Harmony 1.homework.Why i need add "e" and which meaning i need to put on words.İt is the same as add "a" or "e" ?

Adding ´e´ (or ´a´ = see vowel rules) means ´to´ in English. So the example

çorap + e --> çoraba means ´to the sock´. (I know this because my teacher explained it to me, , I had difficulties as well with it.) Mind you: p, ç, t and k as last letter change into b, c, d and ğ when you add a suffix starting with a vowel like here!

in the homework called "putting together major and minor vowel harmony" what is meant by back and front vowels, is it hard and soft?

i can´t understand exactly what is required by this homework

 Back vowels are.... a, ı, o, u

Front vowels are.....e, i, ö, ü

İts accourding to where you pronounce them

Homework asks you to say which can be followed by which

As in the example,

 a or ı is followed by a or ı

So,e or i is followed by .....

And so on

I would just like to say a massive ´teşekkür ederim´ to EVERYONE involved in making these classes happen.  I am enjoying them sooooo much.

I have been coming on this site for quite a while and trying to learn on my own but felt that I was getting nowhere.  It is really helpful to me to have some structure to my learning and to have weekly homeworks as it helps me to focus on the lessons.

You´re welcome Angelina from me. There are many people though who are involved in this to make this project possible, they offer their help and time to teach us Turkish, they are our heros.

If I could add something too ... it is so hard to keep motivated when learning a new language.... because of the structure of lessons and the deadlines set for completing your homework, this keeps me completely motivated to complete the homeworks set (on time) and the entire 10 weeks course. I would feel. should I not complete it, like I am letting my teacher and all the other teachers down as if it was not for all their hard work, this would not be possible....sooooooooBIG THANKS FROM JO XXXXX

I am attempting my homework for Section 3 on Demonstative Pronouns.  I understand what I have to do but I´m a bit confused about when to use şu and when to use o.  The same goes for  şunlar and onlar.  As ´şu´ and ´o´ both mean ´that´ how do I know which one to use???? 

Can someone explain the difference please and give some examples if possible.

This is easy maybe that because seems confusing.
you can say in english:

This is a car
That is a car
These are cars
Those are cars

same in turkish:

Bu bir araba.
Şu bir araba.
O bir araba.
Bunlar arabalar.
Şunlar arabalar.
Onlar arabalar.

Gençturk, I once learned that şu means ´that´ for something you can see but cannot touch and o means ´that´ for something you cannot see and cannot touch. Is that a correct difference for both times ´that´ between şu and o?

Ex.: Like in ´that car I parked opposite of the street´ and ´that car I have left in Ankara (while being in Istanbul´.

I don´t know if o is necessarily something you can´t see. My book says it´s just a lot further away than şu would be eg-a tree on the horizon would be ´o´

you can see the "O"
I will give you a simple example:

-Ali, Şu kalem senin mi?     Ali, is That pen yours?
-Bu mu?                           is this one?
-Hayır, O değil, Şu.              No, not that, that one.


Basic differents between "O" and "Şu" you cannot use "Şu" or "Bu" for something you couldnt see. You should use "O" for something you couldnt see. I hope it helps.

As we are getting forward in our Turkish class , the lessons sometimes begin to seem confusing , especialy applying the vowel harmony in making sentences.

Can anyone help me in finding  a simple strategy to remeber the application.

I am just a begginer and I realy find the Turkish language very fascinating, but these simple rules sometimes get me confused when doing the homework which ultematly leads to wrong answers.

I have just came back from a very nice trip to Antalya to attend a medical conference.

Antalya is a magnificent place, and as I heard it is called the Turkish reviera.

But as i am trying to catch up with my homework i noticed the class have reached section 13!!!

and all I know is there is only 10 sections. Could any one please help me find the rest three sections in order to catch up with my homework before the exam.

the following words oturma odasýnda in the living room , yemek odasýnda in the dinning room , am i right in assuming that the n is a buffer between sý - n - da

if this is correct why is the buffer n used when the following letter is not a vowel
