Which is preferable?

Simple Past  made with "di" or "dý"

(AND YOU CAN PUT "SÖYLE" INSTEAD   OF THE VERB "DE"

sometimes "söyle" is used.)

I                  Ben de-dim.

You             Sen de-din.

He-She-It    O de-di.

We             Biz de-di k.

You             Siz de-di niz.

They           Onlar de-dil er.

Simple PResent   made with "r"

I               Ben de-r im.

You           Sen de-r-sin.

He-She-It  O de-r.

We           Biz de-r-iz.

You          Siz de-r-siniz.

They        Onlar der-(ler).

 Sorry doudi, i cant answer your questions because i´m a beginner in Turkish. Perhaps someone else can? {#lang_emotions_confused} I have seen both söylemek and demek used. It was just a bit of practise for me in the present tense {#lang_emotions_razz}

Actually they have same diffrences as between tell and say in English

Mostly Söylemek means tell

Bana söyle...tell me

When demek  can have the meaning of say

Of course caliptrix can confirm that better

Canlý is right.

But still söylemek can be used as say like in:

I said she was right  = Haklý/Doðru olduðunu söyledim.
