Do you want to start a new word game that helps expand your Turkish and English vocabulary at the same time?

If you wish, this is what you must do.

You’ll write a Turkish word with the English meaning on the other side and create a sentence from it.

The next person will join it if they wish so you all know what that word means.

Or the next person will write a new word with the English meaning and create a new sentence from it.

And it goes on like that.

Let me start:

Word= öðrenmek / learn

 Sentence : Türkçe öðrenmek istiyorum : I want to learn Turkish.

Word = sorun / problem

Sentence = Sorunun nedir? :  What is your problem?

Word= sevmek / to love

 Sentence : Ýstanbul çok seviyorum : I love Ýstanbul very much.

Sentence : Ýstanbul çok seviyorum : I love Ýstanbul very much.

Ýstanbul çok seviyorum, should be like this:

Ýstanbul´ u çok seviyorum.

u : suffix

word :sormak =to ask (something); to ask (someone something)

sentence :sana bir soru sormak istiyorum = i want to ask you a question

Ýstemek...to want

Uyumak ÇOK istiyorum...i want to sleep so much

"Ýstemek...to want

 Uyumak ÇOK istiyorum...i want to sleep so much"

should be like this:

Çok uyumak istiyorum : I want to sleep so much

Word = handsome/yakýþýklý

Sentence= Babam çok yakýþýklýdýr : My father is very handsome 

Word= Woman/Kadýn

Sentence : Sevdiðim kadýn : The woman I love

Word= Bell /  Çan

Sentence : Çanlar kimin için çalýyor? : For whom the bells toll?

Word= Green  /  Yeþil

Sentence : Vadim o kadar yeþildi ki : How green was my valley

Word= Wind/ rüzgar

Sentence : Rüzgar gibi geçti : Gone with the wind

Word - eye - göz

Benim yeþil gözlerim var - I have green eyes

Word: Benzemek = resemble

Sen bana çok benziyorsun = You resemble me much

abartmak = to exaggerate

Siz bu olayý çok abarttýnýz. = You exaggerated this event too much

acýkmak = to get hungary

Günde, üç kere acýkýrým = Three times in a day, I get hungary

Acýmak = To feel sorry for

Sana acýyorum. = I feel sorry for you

Adamak = To devote

Hayatýmý sana adadým. = I devoted my life for you

Aksamak = To interrupt, to halt

Yaðmur çok yaðarsa, iþlerimiz aksar = If it rains too much, our works will interrupt 

word : memnun olmak -  to be happy / pleased (that)

sentence : Eðer gelirse memnun olurum - If he/she/it comes I´ll be happy

Alýþmak = To get accustomed to

Ben sana çok alýþtým = I got accustomed to you much

Anýmsamak = To remember

Sizi sesinizden anýmsadým = I remembred you from your voice

Araþtýrmak = To research

Bu konuyu iki yýl boyunca araþtýrdým. I have researched this topic for two years.

Ben sana çok alýþtým = i got very accustomed to you

Ayartmak = To tempt

Sizi ben ayartmadým = I did not tempt you

Azýmsamak = To disdain, To Underestimate

Beni azýmsamayýnýz = Do not underestimate me

Becermek = To succeed, to achieve

Bu iþi becerebileceðinize inanýyormusunuz? = Do you believe to succeed this work?

Beðenmek = To like, to appreciate

Ben bu kýzý beðeniyorum = I like this girl

Beklemek = To wait, To anticipate

Sekiz yýl boyunca, gelmeni bekledim = For eight years, I have waited your coming

Berkiþtirmek = To make stronger

Evin duvarlarýný berkiþtirdik = We made the walls of the house stronger

Etimologist - could you list more than one of these helpful expressions in the same post instead of a separate one for each?

Bellemek = To learn

Ýngilizceyi belleyebilirim = I can learn English

Belletmek = To teach

Ýngilizceyi belletebilirim = I can teach English

Belletmen = Teacher, Instructor

 word :kolay = easy

sentence : Türkçe öðrenmek kolay - It is easy to learn Turkish

Word: þaka - Joke

 Ã¾aka yapiyorum - i am joking 

(Turkish is not easy for me  

Benimsemek = To adopt

Yeni evimizi benimsemedim = I did not adopt our new house

Beslemek = To feed, To nourish

Bebeði kim besleyecek? = Who will feed the baby?

Birikmek = To accumulate

Para biriktirmiyorum = I am not accumulating money

Bozmak = To undo, to brake

Bilgisayarý kim bozdu = Who has broken the computer

Böbürlenmek = To boast

Böbürlenen kiþileri seviyorum = I do not love the ones who boast

Budamak = To prune

Aðacýn dallarýný budadýk = we have pruned the branches of the tree.

Bulaþmak = To infect

Senin akýl hastalýðýný bana bulaþtýramazsýn = You can not infect me with your mental illness

Buldurmak = To make someone to find, To make someone found

Yitirdiðin parayý sana bulduracagým = I will make you to find the money you have lost

Yitirmek = To lose

Özgüvenimi yitirdim = I lost my self esteem

Buluþmak = To meet

Ýki kýta Ýstanbul´da buluþur = Two continents meet at Ýstanbul

Buruþmak = To burst

Ben senin mektubunu buruþturacaðým ve atacaðým = I will burst and throw you letter

 Etimologist is Turkish isn´t he?

yeah but he/she still needs to translate into english

so its as hard  as us changing English- Turkish

This sentence doesn´t actually make any sense in English - is it a Turkish saying that doesn´t translate well?

Ben senin mektubunu buruþturacaðým ve atacaðým  - I understood it as i will crumple and throw your letter

or maybe we would say , i will crumple your letter and throw it

but like  you said i am also not 100 % sure

 atmak can be ´throw away´ so that would make more sense I will crumple your letter and throw it away

Sentences :

Turkish : Kayýp ya da eski medeniyetler tarihi; Inca, Maya, Aztek, Atlantis, Helenic Period, Mesopotamia/Sumer, Ancient Egypt, Ancient China’dan oluþmaktadýr.

English : The history of lost or old civilizations comprises  Inca, Maya, Aztek, Helenic Period, Mesopotamia/Sumer, Ancient Egypt, Ancient China.

 Uyumayý çok istiyorum.    would be better
