I attempted to read an article yesterday concerning the man running to be the mayor of his municipality for CHP. The article discussed in Radikal claimed that he was pulling out of the electoral race fearing that CHP was using him as a means to gain support from the man´s covered or kapalý following (meaning that wanted to exploit the covered girls that supported him). I found this so strange. Why does CHP (the kemalist party as far as I know) care about the support of a few covered girls? you know I have seen similar political stunts pulled like this is the states, for example, the democratic party never really discussed religion before, but religion was heavily riddled within the most recent presidental election. Anyway, I went on a bit of a tangent, but I was wondering what people think about the claim that this man running for officle had claimed (I am sorry I forgot his name). thanks so much!

you`re talking about Kemal Kilicdaroglu i guess. he is expected to get a big deal of votes from all the different classes of people except the thieves of akp, but what you said doesn`t make much sense, he is not doing anything special to get the votes of a particular group of people. maybe you misunderstood it.

I think CHP lost his hopes from the army.

Even they are able to undestand the army days are over.

They are trying to do ´everything´ to get more votes..

They are even planning to open Quran courses!!!

Tell me one, ONLY one reason why should I scared of Kilicdaroglu?

I getting seriously concerned about your judgements in Turkish politics I must say..

You dont know which ideas represent which political parties in Turkey..

And also you dont know the  thives from previous goverments and their ruthless corruptions. They would steal in an epic scale and they would publicly say it with pride..

Thanks for everyone that posted, but I am sad about the petty argument. anyway...today I too read about how CHP is supporting a quranic course. http://www.radikal.com.tr/Radikal.aspx?aType=RadikalDetay&ArticleID=920412&Date=06.02.2009&CategoryID=78  ..but politics is all about performance as a means to gain power. Thus, parties change their moral stances all the time in order to win public favor. I know politics is a sensitive area, but I am just trying to understand CHP´s motives. Thanks again! .

From  one of the links I gave earlier:

Chp is a party that its entire philosphy has been reduced to save the statusquo whatever the cost. They dont even have the courage or the strength to see the wrong parts about what they are trying to protect.

In order to understand CHP, you have to search about its history. Otherwise what they do wont make sense at all..

Because of the coming elections, the things are getting funnier and funnier in Turkey..lol

First CHP started to welcome veiled women in the party and then they said they are in favour of opening more quran courses..

Now AKP (Erdogan´s islamist party) is accusing CHP that ´they are mixing  religion into politics´ lol lol ..

2 years ago CHP was accusing AKP with the same thing..

I think what happened was that they wanted to learn why AKP was so successful in recent elections. And they came up with this idea that "whatever AKP does about one subject we should do the same and more". So, "if AKP opened many Quran courses and got the votes, we should open more"..

And Now, Erdogan is saying that ´we have enough Quran courses´ hahahaha

But dear CHP why should people give you more votes because of promising more Quran courses?

There is already a ´real´ islamist party already doing it.

Why should they vote for the ´fake´ islamists?

Thanks so much...this was the exact question that  I was asking myself? what is CHP doing? and how do they think their motives are really going to be taken by AKP supporters. I think it makes them look more weak than anything else. thanks again for the insightful input.
