Information (no translation!): I have a Turkish man of about 55 year in one of my classes. He speaks Dutch badly - therefor he is at school - and he is so very much stubborn! He sometimes refuses to correct his mistakes because he keeps telling me it is correct and he thinks he knows it all. Most I can handle that, but sometimes I get so fed up with this behaviour. Of course I can tell him to be silent, to stop (or just to shut up   ) but I like to have some ´witty´ remarks in Turkish to ´let him know his place´. I don´t want to be rude or insulting. Anyone ideas?

Of course! How could I forget, Turks are ALWAYS right, even if they can´t say a three-word sentence without mistakes in MY language. Thanks, Tami, for reminding me this.

Temel and Dursun were strolling down the street, when Trudy approached them to ask directions, She asked her question in English.

T&D had no clue, Trudy tried the same question in French.

No success again. Trudy was already asking the same question, this time in German,

When Italian, Dutch and Spanish also failed - Trudy was furious. She mumbled something indecent, in disgust and quickly departed to find someone who would understand her.

When she left, T turned to D and said "All this bulshit about the advantages of learning new and different languages ! Take this poor lady for example, she can obviously speak 10 languages, yet can she express herself ?...NO !"

There are many things you could say without being rude or obscene.

Seni çýtýr çýtýr yemek istiyorum is a good one.

Erkeðim benim hastayim sana is another.

Bana oyle bakma içim bir fena oluyor would also work wonders.

If you are really angry in the heat of the moment, you could catch him off guard by saying:

Beni kudurtma þahanem.

If he is still getting out of line:

Sen gene çok azdin bu aralar, azgin. Gel bakiim þöyle bir yanima.

Derste azanlara ne yaptiði mi bilirsin.

If the situation becomes unbearable:

Pull a really long & deep ´Aaayyyhhhh´ Ýçim yaniyor. Ben bir fena oldum. Dayanamiyorum sana boyle azdiðin zaman.

If it all fails, and this 55 year old Turkish student of yours keeps on disrespecting your authority, you could always don your dominatrix outfit and spank some sense into him to make him ´understand his place´.

Yep!  I have always remembered it as Suriname!  But the original question was "did the man think it was African??" {#lang_emotions_unsure}

Quoting Trudy

Update: the man was in class this afternoon and made some nasty racist remarks about African and Surinam people. I told him to stop but he continued. Then I really got angry and indeed said ´keep your mouth shut´. Next week his boss, he and I are having a ´nice´ conversation about his behaviour.....

You will ask his boss why he sent him to your class to learn when  ( he thinks ) he  already knows everything {#lang_emotions_lol}
