First off,

Pronounce is something totally different than pronunce, and by looking at the context I think you meant pronunce..

And yes people tend to swallow that "h" letter in the middle when saying "Merhaba".

I may give some other examples of this case, but that does not mean it is correct for every single word,

Şehir(city)> pronunced mostly "şeir"

kütüphane>> kütüpane

şehit>> şeit

but as always, I´m not a native=) so I´d wait for natives to explain this thoroughly if I were you.

I think the letter h is silent only for the word merhaba And indeed it is probably because we say it very fast, for that reason it sounds like silent. Normally no "h" is silent.

Besides "merhaba", in some complicated words which are derived or producted from two words such as kütüphane, h can be silent too. All words with the second word -hane means the place which has done something in it;

dershane => ders + hane

ders = class

hane= house, home or place;

so dershane = classroom

hastahane => hasta + hane

hasta = patent (ill person)

so hastanae means hospital (the place for ill people)

such words which are ....hane can be pronounced fast, and the result sounds like there is no -h- or h were silent. But indeed, normal pronounciation is; -h- is never silent. It is always pronounced.

That´s not correct.

In all the words, şehir, kütüphane and şehit you hear the ´h´.

I just wanted to point out that you can´t say ´what is the correct pronounce´ and I´m sick of reading ´pronounciation´!!!! It may have helped some people even if it didn´t help you.

maybe it would be useful for you to read this first, and after that you are welcome to teach and preach etc - what ever makes you sleep at night (btw - did you notice that you AGREED with those terms when you registered to TC?)

Since many TC members are not native English speakers we don´t expect a perfect use of English Language but please check your messages for spelling mistakes before sending.

Yes,but some non-English speakers like to improve their English by having certain mistakes pointed out to them.

Sleep well.

Turkish is a phonetic language. Every letter that appears in writing is given its due sound, while reading ( there are very few exceptions; learners will be better off ignoring the exceptions)

MERHABA IS PRONOUNCED WITH AN "H"
