Hi all,
Has anyone got any ideas for presents to take to my new girlfriend's family especially her mother? I would like to take her mother and sister and nephew something when I visit Istanbul in June. Any help much appreciated

I always think it is best to take something small, but meaningful. Maybe something traditional from your country. It is easier if you are a girl because you can make something. Good luck - I am sure whatever you bring will be appreciated.

Something typically English - no not chips!!
Some chocolates maybe classic perfumed soaps, English tea. I am sure they will like anything - it is the thought that counts. Have a lovely time

I always take English (or French) cosmetics for my friends mother and auntie. Especially appreciated were aromatherapy oils (except I had to massage them every single night, which was hard work), Also lovely soaps and candles. Chocolates and luxury biscuits. Its harder to buy things for men, especially if you dont know them. For boys I take CDs and chocolates.
Picture frames with photographs of their beloved son/nephew are always appreciated by my Turkish 'family' as are English herbal and fruit teas.
My Turkish sisters also love artifical flowers and ornaments, I once bought some wooden roses in a French market and these have pride of place on the dining table.
Nothing embarrassingly expensive!

Thanks very much everyone there are some very good ideas there, my Turkish lady Nesrin asks me not to bring so many gifts but I always seem to feel I want to. It is just a nice gesture I think this will be the first time I meet her family so I want to make good impression without going over the top. I appreciate the ideas very much thanks

Dont forget you are their guest!! I would take some chocs from Thorntons (get them specially gift wrapped) for the girls, or some tea from Harrods even a tea towel from your local area! Dont spend too much otherwise they might be embarrased. If you come from Gloucestershire then something from Stow on the Wold or similar - traditional! Enjoy what ever
