The direct speech question should be something like

 

                             Onu benim için yapacak mıydı?

 

But I couldn´t go any further.

But I couldn´t go any further.

I changed my translation abla. I think "would have" expresses a past unreal condition. So I corrected it as "yapar mıydı"

Yes it is the apodosis of an unreal condition. This makes sense now. I saw it translated wrong at another website but I was not sure until now. Sağ ol.
