hi!

i'm the same as u.

i'm currently teaching myself turkish from a course book. if i have any questions, i have found the members of this site really helpful in giving answers.

searching the internet for turkish language resources is good too.

otherwise, u should sign up for a turkish class near where u live. there's not many places at all where i live that teach turkish, which is why i'm doing it on my own.

have fun!

Hello there,

I also am learning myself, as where I live there are no teachers or anything

I recommend listening to the radio to help with pronounciation, and having people test you on vocab, set yourself a target of learning say,5 words a day. Also music helps.

There are some great books around, firstly it's best to learn suffixes etc so that you can recognize tenses etc.

This site also is fantastic and you'll never walk alone here

I also visit random Turkish webites, especially ones with forums, as you can pick up some good phrases there, and also watching Turkish TV online.

Best wishes

[Hi
I think to learn the grammar is good and also to learn simple phrases. Go on holiday to Turkey ofcourse and practice.
Get a few books I have got Linguaphone Turkish PDQ. Turkish the rough guide and that is good for basic grammar.
This site Turksish Language Class is good because everyone is so helpful and I only signed up yesterday.

Be realistic, it is not easy and it will take time but then isn't anything worthwhile.
Lastly enjoy it and if you don't undertand just laugh and ask someone on this site where you are going wrong. I need to take my own advice.
Good Luck Jo-Anne]

Hi newbies! lol

Welcome to the website!

First of all I'd like to say that you really have to work hard if you want to learn a language perfectly! But there are quite a few good examples on this website of people who've learned the language!

I was also trying very hard to learn the language, and I will go on learning very soon hopefully, but basically what I'm doing is watching TRT Int. It's a Turkish TV programme, which is available here in Holland (And I think in a lot of other countries as well!).

Another thing that is indeed very useful, is to read everything on the 'learn turkish -> grammar' pages! It is al really clearly explained, and if you don't understand something, it's easy to refer back to it!

There are some things you should be careful with though!
You can listen to music, and get the text in front of you, but ónly if you want to listen to how people pronounce certain words.. What I know from English songs, is that they're sometimes using really bad sentences.. and I wouldn't be surprised if that's happening in Turkish songs as well!

A 3rd thing you could do is going to the TC chat on this website, and meet other Turkish people, on which you can try your knowledge! You can just start by saying 'Günaydin' or something, but that will help you in learning the basics by heart!

Good luck all! xxx

Hoşgeldiniz. I think, watch Turkish channels if you can or follow an onlinenewspaper or news site as ntv.com.tr or some other sites. And lastly do not ever hesitate to ask anythink ..

I recommend the following site
http://www.trt.net.tr/wwwtrt/anasayfa.aspx

It is the home page of TRT (Turkish Radio Television)
You can watch TV channels or listen to the radio stations of TRT, if you click "Canlı Live" button. It is a news portal as well.
