Pleased to meet you = Çok memnun oldum.

But I don't know if you can say this after saying Hello, or if it is used as a goodbye?

I thought you could say it as a hello, but when I did that to Kadir's mom she smiled like 'ohh so cute'... so now I doubt

Do you already know any Turkish grammar and words then?

Because with just learning 'quotes', you cant have a conversation. Because you;ll be able to say a few, but you won't be able to understand the reply your in laws will give you!

I met my in-laws this summer too for the first time and my lover also did most of the translation, but my basic Turkish is fine enough to have a small conversation and understand the replies. The people you will speak with, will simplify their language because they realize you are just learning

Im impatient And I am desperate to chat properly with everyone now... !!! I have just returned to UK from Turkey yesterday. I was there 2 weeks... staying with the family... and its amazing how much I learnt in those 2 weeks.... so.... I should be more patient.

Start learning some of the basic grammar......and ask questions and practice writing Türkçe on the "Practice Turkish" forum.

Well we've known each other for 2.5 years by now, we met on internet and fell in love quite soon. So far we've seen each other only 4 times. We are officially together for a year and a couple of months now.. I was in Turkey for 2 weeks too, in Çeşme close to Izmir city. In Didim I met his parents first time, as there was no opportunity the other 2 times that I had visited Türkiye. In 7 weeks I will move to Izmir to go to universitey there to learn Turkish and see if this love is both what we hope and expect from it

Oh how great... I too met on internet and fell in love.

This has been our 2nd meeting and he will come here next. We have known each other for 10 months now... we talk every day and miss each other terribly.
I will move to Izmir next year...

Best of luck for your future together.

Thank you, you too

Mind you, getting him to (where actually do you live?) will probably be difficult, so he should start early with applying for a visa. It has brought my love quite a lot misery to go through all these things like he is less worth to travel around the world than I am.

Oh yes, I have heard it is difficult... he wants to come for christmas. I live in sussex, UK. He will apply straight away for his visa... he desperately wants to meet his future father in law... but we do have a plan if he does not get his visa.

I will go back to Izmir for christmas instead.

Either way... we will be together...

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THE UK MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR TURKISH MEN TO ENTER UK?????? :-S

Lucky you then

No, I don't.. but it's not only difficult for Turkish people, also for example for Maroccan people. Maybe it has to do with the main-religion in certain countries, combined with the western fear of terrorism?

I suggest you contact Lyndie from this website (though she's busy lately and not much around), she knows a lot about visa appeals for UK. If you take a look at the essay-page, you can also read an essay she wrote about it.
