Quoting christine_usa: Thank you for all of the encouraging feedback!
The only problem is that I love him so much it hurts. Really. I am a pretty successful teacher and he is a waiter. He works six days a week- 13 hours a day, but calls me every night before falling asleep.
I am struggling so much with material success in America and love in Turkey.
I don't care about money. I study Turkish like a fiend for our time together. I am returning in December for only ten days, and again next summer for 2 months.
I've gone mad over him. Any rational thoughts out here? |
I'm sure you feel the longing all day and can't wait to read his texts, to call him and hear his voice, and count the days till you go again, and realize those days are too many to count.
But you and Omer are quite 'new'. You haven't been together for so long that you change your life on it, if you already have a steady life in the US, right ?
So be happy with your material succes an dlove in Turkey: with the money you make and the indepence you have, you can visit him more often than many of the girls out here can
You can visit him often enough to decide whether it is worth to change your material status into a maybe less wealthy life, but more filled with love.

Quoting christine_usa: I returned from Turkey after a month of study(2weeks), pleasure (2 weeks), and am enamored by the hisory, cultue, and coexistance of ancient and modern.
I fell madly in love, and talk every day to my love, but am struggling with the reality of all of this.
I read on this site that hundreds of western women fall in love with Turkish men. I've read about the pitfalls and the postives. Please tell me there are more positives than pitfalls......
Regardless- I'm madly in love. Usually I am a rational person, but he captured my heart. Finanaces are a huge issue as is visiting.
Is it really true that Turks cannot visit the USA on a tourist visa without extraordinary research into their past, employment history, financial status etc...
If so- it is ridiculous- I came to Turkey- no VISA- and purchased entry for one for a mere $20 USD- prior to entering customs...
How can we (USA) restrict Turkish immigration in such a manner?
As a teacher in one of the most prestigious high schools in America, I am working to improve this situationj.
Sincerely,
Christine |

This is completely true. There is even much more than this. I have heard that somebody wasn't given a visa because of buying books about İslam on Amazon.com. I wouldn't be surprised if the US Government tracks this kind information.
I think they keep extensive records of people who enter the US. They are requesting your homeland address, phone number, credit card number etc. from the airline company. This has been a conflict between the EU and US since these are confidential information.
I think they also take pictures of you and they take fingerprints and DNA sample if you are a Turkish national.
The US is the last place I would want to live or travel as a tourist or as a student.

I am really shocked. I am searching the WEB for a site that lists the requirements for a VISA. I really have no understanding of why Turkey is so restricted. Just because it is an Islamic country? It's so secular. DNA sample?
I just can't wrap my brain around this.

Believe me I'm an American and they do not keep all of these records. My turkish friends never went through this and I have friends who are governmental officials here. Also, it is not very difficult at all to get a visa, a friend of mine just came over from Ankara and had no problems. Sorry to hear Erdinc your dislike for America, we need good Turkish teachers here in the states. Maybe you know some.
