turkish piece of paper

Hi when I was in Turkey this Summer my fiancee was carrying a piece of paper around with him..it had a pattern on it and writing...I believe it was religious ..He said if he carried it around with him it would keep him safe???Has anybody got any idea what I am talking about and if so what is the name for it???

Laura, possibly they are little piece of papers something written in arabic. They are something which might protect you from genies, bad eyes etc..No logical explanation at all.

Was he wearing it in a neclace around his neck in a triangular encasement? If so this is some kind of prayer. My fiance wears one, and he says inside of it is a prayer on paper that he can take out and read. It protects from accidents etc. He's had it since he was little, and wanted to send one for my dauhters and myself. =)

what makes a prayer written on a piece of paper by a religious man less believable than a christian cross? It is merely a difference in religious beliefs.

The piece of paper to them, is more or less like our Christian Cross and other religious items. I dont think its ridiculous at all
