Çalışıyorum = I am working [in the English present continuous tense].
If you want to make it past time, you add the past-time suffix:
Çalışıyordum = I was working
As for 'biliyorum', it literally means 'I am knowing', but in English we don't use present continuous in this situation.
'The weather is sunny' 'Yeah i know' (no present continuous tense here)
But in Turkish there is:
'Hava güneşli' 'Evet, biliyorum'.
Bilmiyorum is not in the case of the question asked, it only has the negative added, but is sitll a present continous and gets translated as 'I don't know' in most English cases.
The literal translation for 'i know' is 'bilirim', but when to use which, has to do with language and not always with the literal translations.
I hope I made no mistakes as I'm also a learner and that it was a helpful explanation.

I loved you, it would be seni seviyordum??
or thats totally wrong??  :-S

Well that would then be 'i was loving you'..
I loved you = Seni sevdim
And I think the second one is more used.

You can make it as a question yes, i think. But then it will be like this:
Çalışıyor muydum? - Was I working?
Çalışmayor muydum? - Wasn't I working?

Can somebody tell me if it's 'çalışmayor' or 'çalışmıyor'?
I think the second one sounds better, but from as far as I can remember the grammar the negative suffix ought to be me/ma ?

It's "çalışmıyor" Esther.
the negativ suffix is -me, -ma but when other suffixes come after, it can change.
çalışmamak
-ıyorum (I am)
çalışma+ıyorum and "a" is dropped.
-dım (past tense suffix)
çalışma-dım : I didn't study. This one doesn't change.
I think it's because -ıyorum starts with a vowel.

Yes you are right, that is because of the vowel-thing. I totally forgot about it, but I remembered it afterwards when I was thinking of the same example 'çalışmadım'
