You guys reckon if I get stuck in to as much Turkish as possible for a year, aswell as watching TV, and practicing with my Turkish-speaking mum, I could get almost fluent come next summer? I might be taking a gap year in Turkey, and I'd love to be able to communicate fluently with half my family anyway. I can already speak abit of Turkish... like past, present, future, if, with all the basic stuff and quite a decent vocabularly, but nowhere near fluent.

Ok, I just got off from a month long holiday in Turkey on the Saturday night, and I just can't get over it... it's depressing as hell being back in England. I really do love the country way more than this puddle of depressing shit England. Arriving to Iskenderun at 8am the day of our flight from Adana back home really summed it up for me, seeing everyone out and about, all hustle and bustle, walking down the seafront etc, at the kebab stalls rofl. Then coming to a dreary English town and seeing it virtually empty you know... there's just no comparison. There's also a girl over there that I'm obsessed with that lives over the other side of the road... she flirts strangely from time to time but she is goddamn pretty.

Anyway, anyone got any tips to get over this holiday (Get rid of my holiday blues, if you like), and re-adjust to live in pissy England?

Thread: A gap year in Turkey (Mainly Istanbul) ADVICE NEEDED

Ok guys... I've recently learnt that not only do I love Turkey, but I would like to be there as much as possible. In light of this, I'm thinking of taking a gap year in Turkey, and applying for University a year later than normal. It'd be good if people could offer me advice as to how I could actually make this work... you know like, is it possible for me to just stay in Istanbul for the year and renew my visa every three months? Are there opportunities to help with English teaching or something, perhaps even to assist me financially? I heard that alot of places in Turkey are desperate for native English speakers.

Thanks for any advice and help in advance.

Hell, I wish I could move to Turkey and stay there... but I have NO idea how I could do that without getting a citizenship (My mum's Turkish).
