I read her post, and I read it the same way as Akin and Aslı. I read it as a statement, not a sarcastic question. Furthermore, if it wasn't so damaging, why did she delete it rather than leave it and explain it?

I think the most damaging part is that catwoman deleted her posts that crossed the line. Its easy now to say what she meant to say because its not here to be judged any longer.
Believe me, I criticisize something about Istanbul every day. The traffic, the air pollution, the hills, the traffic.... But making comments to criticize Ataturk is different. This would be similar to being on a Christian discussion board and damning Jesus.

You can make a face, but what is wrong with protecting your children? If you think they are making a mistake, you have to tell them.

Why is this racism? If I had a son that was marrying a woman much older than himself, I would also try to prevent it. Not to harm the woman, but to protect my son. Marraige is hard enough as it is. This age difference will at some point become a negative to a marraige. Its just not smart. I agree with whoever said it earlier. Focus on your kids and don't fantasize about a fantasy romance on the other side of the globe.

And just so the site managers are aware, making the statement that "Kemalism" is a created, western evil is criminal in Turkey. I would expect comments like these to be made by those that oppose Turkey, not by those who are here supposedly promoting it.

I can assure you that Akin will not be coming back. He is one of the finest people I know and I believe that no matter what the conversation (in person or on-line) his aim is never to ridicule or insult anyone unless he has been insulted first. I too think that he is the greatest loss of this site in a long time. Most of his on-line posting was helping others, not politics. Good luck filling the good work he did here.

Keith

Thanks for the clarification ... your profile lists your home page as CNNTurk ...! Can I call on you if I have any engineering problems???

Even if we exclude constitutional changes, a government can ensure a whole raft of policies become law. Their vote increased the reduction in seats came from MHP crossing the barrage this time.

As foreigners we just have to hope for the best outcome for Turkey in all of this.

The next time you are constructing a power generation facility, let me know and I will give you a great discount.

Erdogan has been in power for years now. There was no real protest to his governing until he decided to attempt to become President. This is a constitutaional item. So I do not have a problem with AK Parti as long as they leave the constitution alone.

I work for a very large Turkish engineering firm actually, not CNN.
Again, I don't think anyone expected AK Parti to lose its control of Parliament. So it was a matter if they would pick up seats. In fact, they lost 27 seats, so this is what I find encouraging.
The change in Constitutional Amendments are the items I feel were most important. They lost ground in their attempt to make these changes so this is why I feel comfortable with the outcome.
