Yes, I travelled from Istanbul to İzmir, and it is about the same price I suppose. But I think it is not that bad to go by bus to Ankara from Istanbul, as there is a well constructed highway. For example, you can go Ankara-Istanbul in about 3 hours by car. Whereas Izmir-Istanbul (according to the map not such a big difference in distance), it would take you about 7 hours at least. Bustrips obviously are a bit longer.
I believe there to be a train too but I am not sure..

I have to say, I drive fast, and I have never made it from Ist to Ankara in 3 hours. I'd say closer to 4 hours. I hate taking the bus, I suggest finding a cheap flight.

Thanks Guys, Are we talking from Sabiha Gökçen or Ataturk airport? Speed will be of the essence, if I decide to visit, as I will want to pack in a lot!! | |

My dayı travels it often and he is always back home in about 3 hours.. But I have to admit Kadir's family doesnt live in the centre of Ankara I guess, that could make a big difference as well.

As a student I always went by bus.. the price difference between a busticket and a planeticket is pretty big. But last time I really couldnt be bothered to sit in a bus for 10 hours and did buy a domestic flight, which cost ms 99YTL with THY.

Nooo 10 hours is from Istanbul to Izmir.. it is less to Ankara.. If I remember well it is 5/6 hours? Not sure about that though.

Depending on how much money you have to spend, I would find a domestic flight on a good time.

By bus: Sabiha Gökçen is closer to Ankara than Atatürk Airport I suppose.

For plane, it doesnt really matter. And for both trips Atatürk-Ankara, Sabiha-Ankara, either by bus or plane, there wont be a significant price difference.

I pretty much enjoy going by bus too (not all of the time fully packed with suitcase in a 10 hour bus ofcourse..) maybe it is because I live in a country where you can travel the entire country in a couple of hours, and distances like İstanbul-Izmir,-Ankara are comparable to driving to Paris, Berlin or London from my home. So I enjoy the fact of being in this vaste country. Maybe it is because my first experience in Turkey all by myself was a trip at the age of 17, on a bus that crossed the water..
I travel with Nilüfer and they are really good. They are cheap and provide good service. But a plane ride is only an hour and therefore very tempting
