Quoting caliptrix:

oda room
oda+m my room
yatak oda+sı sleeping room
yatak oda+m my sleping room

Bu sabah yatak odam çok soğuk.

Can you explain why yatak odam doesn't also have an /ı/ suffix?

if you put another -ı as in:

yatak oda mı? --> is the bed a room ?
yatak odamı --> it becomes an objective.

did you see my bedroom? --> yatak odamı gördün mü?

and if you want to make yatak oda-sı --> his bedroom an objective you should add -nı

Yatak odası gördün mü?

otherwise they are all names.
yatak odam
yatak odan
yatak odası

hope this helps...

Çok sağol ama beni hâlâ anlamdım

yatak oda - the (s)ı suffix is needed because this is a noun modification. And therefore yatak odası becomes a compound noun with yatak describing the oda. Is this correct?

What I do not understand is why we don't add a possessive suffix to the compound noun in this case but we do in other cases - for example yapılacaklar listemi where both the -ım and suffixes are added.

Ahh bod Ahhh...

what you ask about yatak odası is ok.. you got it right...
yatak odası = bedroom

yapılacaklar listesi = to do list
yapılacaklar listem = my to do list

i lost my to-do list = yapılacaklar listemi kaybettim

the possesive suffix is added if only you use it in a sentence...
