I was trying to find crime rates by country but I couldn't find it. Instead, I found a site with homicide rates. If you scroll down the page, you'll see the rate in 2000s. Actually it hasn't risen considerably, in some countries it's even decreased. You also have to take into account countries with war.
Anyway, see for yourselves:

Quoting MrX67: Quoting Daydreamer: Nope, I think people are just as they've always been. You know, past generations always complain about the young ones being devoid of moral spine. But it is due to the fact that we no longer are those young people and we don't really know how they are. In fact, they are not so different from how we used to be. It just looks different from our today's perspective.
What is it exactly that you find so terrible about young people nowadays? |
well first my aim never blaming youth or make a generalization about them, and sure they r the guaranties of a lighter future, and sure life perspective changing for each new generation depend to many reasons, but i believe that crime and guiltiness getting more each new day as the reflection of unlimited freedom understanding..anyway i trust power of youth and youngs |
I think the media is much to blame as well. S*x/s*xy images is the number one thing for selling almost everything nowadays, even kitchen cupboards and cat food. Look at the smut there is on some tv programmes from all over the world, look at the way the newspapers are smuttily (is that a word ) put together - you only need to look at milliyet, hurriyet (which are supposed to be of a better class) and you will see on the online versions "click here for the perfect woman" "typic kadınlar" " seksi kadınlar resim" - and also such trash like the sun, star in UK. Men are hopelessly (in most cases) drawn to these images and the ordinary woman, I believe, often feel that that image is what they need to live up to. Look at the types of music clips that popstars produce, the virtual porn some female popstar degrade themselves to to sell records, and likewise the male popstars use s*x to sell their ego-boosting music to young men.
I think that it is getting totally mixed up and this poor young generation think that s*x and image is the only thing that is going to get them somewhere in life ! It is downright abuse ! and it is so sad !
I will get off my soap box now.

One of the biggest problems is that people are not judged as individuals. We are all judged by the region/country that we live in even if we do not share the same ideas as the majority.

I guess some still do not know how valuable genes we all have in the universe.
Diversity and equity are coded in our genes.
May peace and love be with all of us.

Quoting Roswitha: America's moral values have changed dramatically in the last 30 years. Our society is definately changing and obviously not for the better since crime rate, drug abuse, pornography and many other things that are degrading have increased. What's interesting to note is that every major society/government ie. Roman, Egypt, Greece, Ottaman etc. has eventually self-destructed as their morality has declined. Does that mean we are as a nation headed for self-desctruction.

Roswitha....I do agree to some extent. But there is one thing that you may not have concidered. Back before there where organizations (CDC, WHO, Department of Health and Human Services in every state) that tracked and trended things like drug use (for example) we had no real way of telling how rampant these things were or were not. Some of these trends have actually improved over the past few years. In fact, on a daily basis I see far more good than bad. I don't personally know anyone who is addicted to drugs or who is a prostitute or porn star. Do you?
I am proud of my country and I know we are not a cespool of immoral decay and I am tired of people reading a few articles here and there, or seeing a few movies and thinking that they know the American people. Don't ever let people tell you that this is not a great country....nobody else invented the car or the airplane or put a man on the moon first...Yes, the US government has done some terrible things in it's history (and continues to do so today) but that will never erase the good we have done.

QUOTING PRESIDENT CARTER:The greatest challenge is the growing chasm between rich people and poor people not only inside of a country but rich nations and poor nations," Carter says. "There has never been an administration in Washington before in history that has so dramatically favored the extremely rich people in this country at the expense of poor and working class families. Every major tax change has been to take taxes away from the rich and put it on the poor and working class people. And this, I think, was vividly demonstrated when you saw the aftermath of Katrina. It just shows what's always been there. And that is that poor people are the ones who suffer most
