ok thanks so i should not be offended when he says it to me? it´s not soemthing negative then? right?

You shouldn´t be offended. It´s not negative.

if it was "abe" exactly. I think he lives in Trakya region of Turkey. In example in Edirne, Tekirdağ, Kırklareli... And it expresses sincerity like "ho!" in English.

Maybe. But I have heard it in Balıkesir, Konya and in Van, too. But of course I didn´t know the origin of the people who told "ağbey" [a:bi:] and "oğlum".

The friend who calls me abe is originally from Diyabakır but has lived in the Bodrum area for many years. Maybe he just thinks of me as male????????????

it is better calling people in their names.Serious people never use that "oğlum" in conversations.if you are not serious you can of course call your friends "oğlum" "kızım" "lan" "ulan" etc.

one thing:older people may use these words "oğlum,kızım,çocuğum etc." to show their affection and that is good.

You are right! But it is not negativ, just slang and everyday conversation.

yes it is slang , it is everyday conversation but sometimes it is really negative:

for example:if you use the word "oğlum" when you are querreling it will not be taken "positive".

If you werent very close friends the situation refers to father and son relation.
Generally who use "oğlum" assumes to be a superior person.
I think it is a word of bad language.
