Karacabey-the most famous Turkish horse breeding farm
|
1. |
25 Mar 2009 Wed 02:49 pm |
Karacabey is a town in Marmara region of Turkey,Bursa province famous for its stud farm (and finest kind of cheese called Mihalic.)
Karacabey horse was light, riding one appearing black, chestnut, roan, gray, bay)It is said to be the only one typically Turkish breed.
Must have been beautiful as now this breed is extinct.Pityyyy
Anyway Libra would you fancy a bit of investigation into the topic of Turkish horses?Or perhaps there is the TC-ist who knows more about Karacabey horses?Perhaps someone has a photo of this extinct breed as unfortunately I cannot find it in the net...Karacabey farm still exists but without Karacabey breed.
Would appreciate more info)Thanx in advance.

Thanx Libra, what I learnt from"omni´wiki is that one of these horses was presented to the Queen of England before the whole breed became extinct ,they say the horse was a polo champion later, but they do not say when and what was the name of the horse. There must be some photos of this champion somewhere...anyway kolay gelsin

I absolutely adore horses....although I don´t own one Someday, perhaps!
I had never heard of this breed before, however, here´s what I could find so far on it:
This picture was uploaded in 2006 ... http://www.usefilm.com/image/1158148.html
If you notice in the picture below....the Dam is a Karacabey, which would tell me that the breed is still alive??
Sire: Danzero
Dam: Karacabey
Brett´s Comment: Very correct looking colt who looks an Autumn two-year old. Very bright eyed and looks a future sprinter/miler. Dam (by Zabeel) is a full sister to the terrific racemare Winning Belle, a group two winner in the Queensland Guineas. Dam is also a half sister to Finezza Belle, a 3-time Stakes winner including the GII Grand Prix Stakes in Queensland.

This is long, but I don´t know how else to send it to you, except through here... you can see that Karacabey horse is a part of this lineage...
Maybe that will work better?? I have no idea how to send this information to you, but it is the pedigree info for the black horse above...it shows that the Karacabey horse is part of this lineage.
This image comes from this site: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/18669495
Maybe this last picture are not Karacabey horses, I don´t know for sure??

hmmmmm....I´m confused The part after "Picture was uploaded in 2006" is the url of the site...if I delete that Adana will not be able to copy and paste it into an internet site. As far as I can see, I modified it from the original one that I posted...which was very obnoxiously LONG!!

Okay...I´ll delete the purple part (that´s the file of the pedigree information)...but, Adana...if you go to the picture of the black horse, and click on "Pedigree info link" you should be able to download the pedigree information yourself, and then you will see that the Karacabey horse is a part of that black horse´s lineage. Pretty cool, don´t ya think?

Kiara ,thank you very much for your involvement but tracing this breed is not that easy)I checked the lineage of the horse whose picture you posted,it indeed may have a bit of Karacabey blood but I am looking for more info about original breed .The funny thing is that even encyclopaedia of horses mentions such entry without a picture)
But I found an interesting book by Jeremy James about other Turkish horse-a stallion
The Byerley Turk is known as one of the three foundation stallions of the Thoroughbred breed, but how he came to England is mostly a mystery. British writer Jeremy James combines thorough research and skillful storywriting to come up with this exciting "account" of the life of this important stallion
the book is available in the net as well.Thank you Kiara) and if you are willing to help again let´s carry on)
providing a link would destroy the size of the page..hahaha

You´re very welcome....It was fun searching for this horse breed...even though I didn´t find very much. This book that you mention... The Byerley Turk...I found on Amazon.com . Is the Byerley Turk the original breed that the Karacabey horse came from? I am very interested in "carrying on this search" . I had never heard of this breed before now and now you´ve sparked my interest .

Turkish horses were the most devoted and appreciated companion of The best Cavalry ever in the world ´s history known as Winged Husars in 16th and 17th century. Each rider had at least 4 of them. The horses were extremely tough, fast and light. The horses were undergoing special training making them a battle tool.Polish riders on turkish horses were invincible)

I have found a few pictures: http://www.cm-westernreiten.de/karacabeyer.jpg from: http://www.cm-westernreiten.de/pferde12.htm
The horse up top looks like it could be one but the horse below are Tbs http://www.tigem.gov.tr/icerik.asp?is=158q12502q10q1hdq10q1133q10q1145
http://www.daylife.com/photo/06xveoy6ej8FQ Reuters Pictures 1 month ago Horses run at the Karacabey Pension Stud farm in the western Turkish town of Karacabey August 17, 2009. The Karacabey Pension Stud farm is the biggest stud farm in Turkey and one of the leading ones in Europe in terms of paddock size. The farm has 361 hectares of paddock area. It has more than 220 staff and its horse population rises as high as 1,200 between January and June each year due to births. Picture taken August 17, 2009
Other farms are known to breed TB and or Arabs, these are definately Thoroughbreds
This is the home site and it appears bothe TBs and Arabs are bred: http://www.tjk.org/ info: http://www.tjk.org/tjk_en/Content/Haralar_en.aspx?l= Karacabeys should have a more arabian look I think, since Arabs were bred with the native ponies and stock type horse. Any other farm I have seen breeds either TBs or Arabs.
They may be possibly trying to breed them back, which is possible considering they were originally bred from existing breeds that are still around. Presently there does not seem to be any left and hardly any pictures to speak of.
