Senin yolculuðun nasýldý    or   Yolculuðun nasýldý

Words like "benim", "senin", "onun" can usually be omitted, however, possessive suffix must be appended to a noun (even if you used word "senin"). In this case it is "-un" suffix, meaning "your".

Senin yolculuk is also possible but used rarely compared to the other 2 forms.

Usually when speaking of something of more than one in a comperative manner.

Senin yolculuk nasýl geçti, benimki biraz yorucu idi.

How was your journey? Mine was a little bit tiresome.

Senin kýz kaç yaþýnda? Benimki 10 oldu.

How old is your daughter? Mine is 10 years old now.

could you also say ?

yolculuðun nasýldý ?

 yolculuðun nasýl geçti? would sound more natural.

Its the suffix I am actually struggling with, I want to say how "was" your trip. I was thinking along the lines of -yordun .

Yolculuðun nasýl geçti? Which translates literally as the past tense "How did your trip pass?"

or in other words "How was your trip?"

 When I was at school learning French, the thing that used to drive me mad was that I couldn´t do a word for word translation, because my French teacher would just say "they don´t say it like that" and couldn´t explain why.

Turks don´t say how was it, they say how did it go.

In my sentence, the past tense is denoted by the use of -ti on the geçmek:

Yolculuðun nasýl geçti.

If I were telephoning a friend who is on the train I might say:

Yolculuðun nasýl geçiyor - how is your journey going.

I didn´t write it before, because as I am not a native speaker I am not 100% sure of the fact, but I think yolculuðun nasýldý is a very general Q. It could be answered "it went well" or "I got a bus from Istanbul", or "it was a 4 hour trip". i.e. it can relate to a Q about the nature of the trip, or the mode of transport.  Whereas Yolculuðun nasýl geçti requires an answer like "it went well", "it was a nightmare", "I slept the whole way" etc.  If I am wrong on this, I would appreciate it if a native speaker corrects it!

Any ideas what a guy really wants to know, if he asks you "yolculugun nasil?" ?

This is a decent question; it is purely academic. Dont get wrong ideas....

You can say all of them.

"Yolculuðun nasýl geçti ?" or "Yolculuðun nasýldý ?" or " Yolculuk nasýldý ?"

The question "Senin yolculugun nasil?" is somewhat different from "senin yolculugun nasildi?. where the latter is a mere inqury into details and conditions of your recent journey.

The former question can be literally translated as "How is your travelling?" or "How are you as a traveller?".

Although there are better ways to do it, the guy asking you "Senin yolculugun nasil ?" is probably measuring you up as a potential travelling companion in a journey yet to be made. He wants to know answers to questions like, (1) whether you get neausea in long car trips, (2) whether or not you can sleep confortably thru night journeys in a bus or a coach train, or (3) whether or not you get sea sick, sailing over slightly choppy waters.

When you talk like this, yolculuk never means "as a traveller" like you think It must be a kind of a very very unnatural (and also funny for me) situation.

YOLCULUK may mean both "travel" or "being a traveller"..

Very similar to "askerlik", "Misafirlik" or "hiyarlik".
