Quoting Deli_kizin:

Hmm it is true that these are quite contradictional. On one hand 'we' expect them to open doors for us, on the other hand we want to be treated as equals. But here is my point: if he opens the door for you, does that make you un-equal to each other? Maybe, if he always is the one doing things for you. But won't you be the one to offer to make tea when you get home after a tiring day of home-shopping, after he has opened the door for you?

I think the whole point in this discussion is giving and taking in a healthy balance (OMG i sooo sound like those awful healthy trend-magazines!).

Ooo Deli_Kizin, our wise Dutch classmate , you always make me see a good point that I missed! Yes, of course you are right, I can see that. All of it (including sounding like a healthy trend-magazine !!!) Hey! Maybe you could have your own chat-show!! You could be the next Oprah - just think of all that money . (can I be your PA?)
BTW - went to Netherlands for the first time last month - LOVED IT! sorry - a bit off-topic, but no more than baklava
