Well. i'm not a muslim and i'm going to fast only because it would make me uncomfortable to eat when my friend cannot. I do not want to make him sit with me in a cafe or restaurant while i eat. i can get up and have breakfast with him and i can wait to eat for the evening meal. It will be a pleasure to share these meals with him.

BUT

I think not drinking water is very bad for you. You should drink at least 2 litres per day and more it it is very hot. I personally could not drink 2 litres just in the morning and night time, so i will not stop drinking water. I'm afraid i feel very strongly about this. it is very bad for you not to drink water during the day. If I didn't drink water, i would probably faint in the day time.

I know I shouldn't smoke. He also finds it hard not to smoke. This will be very very hard for me, but I will try because that will also be hard for him to watch me smoke when he can't do it himself.

Hheheh - I dont' mind the dieting part really, but go without water NEVER! It keeps your skin nice and your eyes bright and all your internal organs working properly. I would never go even 2 hours without water.

yes
in the ramazan, ppl dont eat and drink smth for muslim.. and it is a meaning manth than any month..
why?
it has some religional and spritual meanings..
what do ppl in ramazan?
1)the difference bentween the poors and riches vanish.. both of them does not eat and drink.. so then could understand what the hungery is..
2)at the same time, bot of them understand that what God gives for human.. like food, water, sea, natural beauty etx..
3)at the same time ppl who are not muslims dont fast not necesaary dont eat smth.. they can drink and eat.. in anywhere even in muslim country.. but the should not provacate other ppl...
4)fast (oruç] provides to be more healthy.. less eating, less driking but same movements..spending same energy, taking less food..
5)ppl can get deal each other more easily.. they can give eavh other some foods at nights.. ally the poors etc etc..
6)at the night azan time ppl smile and cheer up easily....
and ramazan is beneficial than 1000 months..

This was a very nice posting dusk, actually I understood all these things about Ramazam, but you have reminded me what it is all about. My friend who i will be in turkey with has explained all this to me. He doesn't mind me eating and drinking in front of him, it is me who feels uncomfortable about it.

Last year I shared his (and others) Iftar on the first day of Ramazam and it was a very wonderful thing for me to be invited to it. I will fast with him, because then i can enjoy so much more the companionship of sharing the food in the evening if I am also very hungry.

I just won't give up the water because I will look tired and horrible! (no natural beauty for me without water!)
Thanks for the nice post.

This is very interesting because a university student got killed in a cafe inside the university just because he bought something to drink or eat in ramadan.
In many cities you are not allowed to smoke on streets. When you do someone will come and tell you that you must not.

it is their fundamental and islam forbits the fundamental behaviour.. ppl can be died coz of this..

well this is the whole problem isn't it? Everyone has something to say on the subject of what is and is not allowed, but everywhere people break this rule.

Muslims are not allowed to insult etc, but still we see them killing people! and i'm not just talking about erdinc's post - I'm talking about all the killings that go on in the name of islam/christianity etc.

Anyway - I won't eat, but I will drink water and enjoy being with my friend and his family for their holy time.

I am just wondering when ramadan begins tomorrow...what do i say to my turkish friends?

Also could anyone please translate this?

Happy Ramadan my love. I hope this time of year brings you peace and happiness. Inshaallah time will pass with ease and you will get what you want.

-------------------------------------
Also I am wondering what the name of the prayer is...(hard to explain but something is wrapped in black leather and placed around your neck and then you pray)....what is the name..and also how do you pray for it?

Thanks

i think fast is good for health. it's look like detox. if you fast only 12 hours for water and meal, it is not mean you will not drink water 2 lites. becasue you can drink after you fast. i think it's good time for control mind. don't forget now weather at Turkey is autumn, so it's not hot. i think if you want to fast really, you should not smoke because cigarette will give bad health for you too.
wishing everybody will get a good health.

i think it is great you are so compationate towards your friend that you would go without food thoughout the day how ever i must say not drinking water is nothing nomatter how hot it gets i am a muslim and i fast and i have yet to see one of us faint also i am a docter and i can asure you that going without water for less than 12 hours has no negative effects on your body what so ever. have you ever heard of detoxing...it is the exact same thing as vasting(physically atleast) only difrence lies in the purpose for it people fast to become better people and to become more diciplined. while detoxing is only done to cleanse the body of accumulated substances that enter our body everyday.

but since you dont believe in Allah i see no purpose in trying to convice you of drinking water.

You should have some cold starters for your menu.

My speciality is Sarımsaklı Havuç
You can describe it this way.

grated carrots gently heated in olive oil until they release some of their juice and colour into the oil.

They are served on a flat dish so the orange coloured oil puddles around them. They are covered in yoghurt with minced garlic. Decorate with a little chopped parsley

slurpp.....mmmmm.....

Well Hi freshman,
Further to our earlier discussions about whether I fast or not. I'll just say that for 3 out of the 7 days I was in Turkey i did fast! Well actually i did drink water. We had breakfast at 4am, ate and drank like pigs for 40 minutes, drank a lot of tea, chain smoked 2 or 3 cigarettes and then fell back into bed. The rest of the day everyone else spent laying around and not doing anything much. I was bored and went out a lot for long walks. This was a mistake because on each of the three days i was fasting, by 6pm I was nearly fainting. On one occasion I had to be dragged into the salon and put on a sofa to lie down! Offfff. very hard work! I hope everyone else is managing with more dignity and fortitude that I! (well i am sure you are of course).

Are you muslim? Ottomanbayan?

What is to be muslim? What is the meaning of holidays in any religion?

Why some days are a holiday, while other days not holidays?

What is a religion? Dont you think a kind preference? People can not make up with their born?
