turkish men in tourist resorts

could someone please enlighten me as to why most of the turkish guys working in holiday resorts are so desperate to be with an english woman...and also use them to buy them clothes gifts etc.... i go to turkey a lot and had what i thought was a really nice turkish boyfriend, however on a recent trip i realised i didnt as he became extremely violent towards me.
