the problem is related to manner actually. men living in Turkish cities lack of urban culture. that is the problem. they stare at women. for example in western countries people smile each other in the street. but this is not common in turkey. i remember once a tourist girl on the beach smiled a turkish worker and that male worker interpreted that sime as if she wants him and then he tried to rape her. I saw this in the news. the ruralization of the cities is a serious problem in turkey and it had started in 1950s when the last armenian, greek and other minority groups who had an urban culture left the Turkish cities and those people coming from rural areas replaced them. orhan pamuk mentions this in his book "istanbul: memoirs and the city".

Orhan Pamuk can not know turkish ppl, he grew in mansion not in villages. he is only speaking for istanbul. every cosmopolitan cities are have same problems. in Anatolia ppl smiles each other and do more than this. they love to help each other and when they see a foreigner they invite their home and try to entertain. if you go a turkia village you will se the hospitable turkish ppl, they serve what they have in kitchen and give the best place to sleep for guests. you will think it was in the past but no it s same now too. you should see how ppl live in Anatolia. I always travel all over the Turkey coz of my job and see loving and hospitable turkish ppl.

I agree with both Rain and Nor4e. People treat you in the same manner that you treat them. If you are polite, they are too. If you are offensive, they will become too. If you are looking for sex, they will somehow give it to you. And I don't believe a thing about 'innocent' european girls who were taken to bed by turkish resort workers.

I spent 11 days at Antalya, killing time at the beach most of the day, all alone and the only thing I have to say, is that I adored the stuff there. They approached me at first, by asking me if i need anything, asking where I was from, etc. I was quite friendly and polite to them and for 11 days, they were treating me like a queen, bringing me tea, coffee, ice cubes every 15 minutes and watching my bag while I was in the sea, not to be stolen. The dj was dedicating greek songs to me and Antalya had never heard so many songs of Remos (greek singer) before . The day I was leaving, they filled my bag with cds and tapes, to remember them and their beautiful city. No one ever offended me, or made me feel uncomfortable. At the same time, I was seeing them in .... tender moments with other foreign girls. So, it's not the guys working there. It's us and what we ask from them. They are just willing to...satisfy our needs

i living in malaysia..and i saw many asian people their culture..i respct.. But i miss mycountry and mypeople if ya ask why..coz they are really so friendly..great history and culture..some 1 say fo other cities in turkey they are so poor or no educated ..but i can say tht those people more respctfull and stdy in life univercty more clever thn city life people.. even i grow up in istanbul..i cnt be like them..
People are same..wherevr you go..if you are good be sure u ll have nice ...if you thnk bad sure u ll get bad..its up to you..
