Today I read the word Bulaşıkları although I have only ever heard Bulaşık actually used. Please just clarify whether or not it can be used.

Bulaşıkları yıkamak: wash the dihes / do the washing up
we usually use it in plural form.

Bulaşık is both an adjective and a noun.
bulaşık makinası (dishwasher)
Bu tabak bulaşık oldu (this plate is dirty yani it needs to be washed)

Yani means "I mean" or more formally "that is to say". It's a *great* filler when you are learning to speak Turkish because it is the most natural thing to say when you are trying to compose your thoughts (and your Turkish) mid sentence.

Genelikle "yani", "degil mi" ve "yaaaaa" kullanarım, Türkçe konuşarken... Öyle sesim daha fazla 'otantik' bir Türk gibi.

(and yes - others please correct my Turkish if it is wrong, please!)
