Hmmm....I can't seem to quote here, but as I understood the post....she said "traditional wedding". I've been to many Turkish weddings and some of the more modern ones serve alcohol, but the "traditional" ones did not. Perhaps we need to define just what "traditional" means?

It might be interesting to look at what else was going on regarding Greece and Turkey at the time.

1955 - Greek Cypriots begin guerrilla war against British rule. The guerrilla movement, the National Organisation of Cypriot Combatants (EOKA), wants enosis (unification) with Greece.

There are different styles of weddings in Turkey. It would help if we knew if it's a "salon" wedding or outdoor wedding and where it will be. Traditional Turkish weddings go on for days and have different parts for the bride or the groom. What part have you been invited to?

Definitly do NOT bring wine as most of the participants and guests are probably Muslim and could not in clear conscience partake of it. You could bring sweets.

At the end of the wedding the bride and groom sit at a table and everyone goes up to the table to give the gold to the bride. It's customary to bring gold for the bride. Any jewlery shop in Turkey has special items for this event. You can spend a little or a lot, but it is the most appropriate gift.

Perhaps when we know more about the event, we will better be able to advise you.

Enough with the smoker bashing...I'm sick and tired of people having a holier than thou attitude about it. If the companies would stop messing around with tobacco and just leave it alone, it would be much better. Who here in really looking at their life styles can say they don't pollute or damage something along the way? The some way people carry on about sniffing smoke, it'w a wonder there are so many people alive now.

Tarkan is a rare artist. I hope he is protected from the evil eye of jealousy and other negativeity. He manages to combine classic Turkish singing in a unique way that communicates with contemporary society.

He has the best of the Turkish man qualities, that is masculine, but unafraid of showing affection. He has the playful manner that reminds me of a kitten.

May Allah protect Tarkan and keep him healthy in all ways. May he mature into an even better artist. We are lucky to be able to enjoy such an artist.
