I have read all his works but the Black Book. It's next on my list He is a controversial figure among Turks. In my experience most Turks don't like to talk about him.

I think it is because of the particular class (an ultra modern upper class very secular wealthy family) he represents is removed from the majority of Turkish society. Perhaps he writes about issues that are somewhat painful for Turks to have exposed to the world for speculation.

I've found his books easy and fast reading, but you have to keep focused. If you put them down very long it's easy to loose the flow.

I wish more Turkish writers were translated. You might find Yasar Kemal interesting to read as well. Although Orhan Pamuk is more contemporary in his outlook and observations.

Yes, thanks for the post/link. Although I knew most of this already, when it's all together like this, it's even more impressive. It also makes it easier to explain our interest and love for Turkey. Turkey really is an amazing country.

May you be granted patience....that is the only thing now that seems is your option.

Very often, even if you feel you can't live without something and you try your utmost to obtain it, you still can't obtain the object of your desire. It could be in years to come, you will realize that object of your desire was not good for you. It's like the monkey with it's hand caught in the jar....unable to let go...only to be caught by the hunters.....

Now it seems like you can't breath, you are drowning and the future is quite black. Rest assured this will pass. I hope your husband realizes what wonderful precious jewels he has cast aside.

I hope you don't attribute his actions to Turkish culture. I have more than a few friends who are in successful mixed marriages (Turk and Western)that have lasted for over 10, 20 and 30 years.

Good luck....
