Quoting CANLI: Btw,this one should be in off the topic thread,i don't know why posting it here Elisa ?! |
Yes it should be in this Forum Canli - Elisa was commenting on the beautiful and meaningful names that are given in Turkey. However, as usual lately, instead of seeing the positive, certain members choose to see the negative, and again an argument ensues. This kind of lack of humour and rudeness does nothing to further our love of Turkey...

I don't have any intend to take the subject any further.
But I have some words for you. First, are you the spokeswoman of someone else here? The previous post doesnt address you.
Second, weren't you the one who insulted me and went away.
(as you didn' have anyting to say other than insulting)
Third, do you think I mind your so-called love of Turkey.
You cant even differentiate between a single person and a whole nation. You cant be the cause of my hate or love of England. Whether you will reply me or not I wont mind reading that, let alone reply you in case you might insult and go away again. I am not that good at insulting as you are.

If your previous post was for someone else ONLY I suggest you send them a PM. And I notice you also replied to a post where I was answering Canli - is it a different rule for YOU? If you felt my comment that you were "paranoid" was so insulting, then please forgive me and I can assure you, you ARE very good at insulting people.
As to whether or not you like England, its irrelevent. This is a Turkish Class website, for people to learn about Turkey and its culture and language. Like it or not, you are one of it's ambassadors here...
I really have no desire to continue this ridiculous discussion with you. I did not 'run away' earlier and would never run away from a discussion I was merely at work and had to go, but this is completely stupid and I will not be replying on this thread anymore.

Quoting kai: No offence Qdemir but did Elisa's friend really make fun of his name? He only said that was his real name! he did not say it was funny or make a remark on it! if you read the post properly you would have seen that! |
I was dying to say that exact same thing. Sheesh! and to think all this arguing could come from a innocent little opinion made by Elisa (and not her friend ..) she should be utterly ashamed of herself for starting such a ruckus I'm honestly kidding elisa
p.s. my name is belly in turkish and my TURKISH fiance had no problem laughing about that nor did i have any trouble joking about his name. I can't see where the harm is here?? unless of course your name is something really humiliating like a##hole or something

Every country has some names that are a little off, especially if you compare them to other languages. For example I can't help but smiling every time I hear the name Fatma. I can ignore the fat part but even when I try to think of it in turkish it's just really unappealing.
And that's how it is. Don't get me started on funny danish names, there's plenty as well.
Also a question that's really not meant offensive in any way, but is it just me or is it particulary girls names that are crude in turkish? Imho there's many nice boy names but girls names are not that appealing to me.

What are those girl names that's not appealing yo you? Name a few. Do you find the following not appealing for example?
ipek (means silk)
sevinç (means joy)
inci (means pearl)
sevinç sounds like a name invented recently but it's actually older than a thousand year in Turkish. We find it in old Turkish.
inci is another name older than a thousand year and it's a loan from Chinese actually. After so many years it sounds like a beautiful Turkish name.

I'd really not like to go into detail because I don't want to offend anyone but I suppose it's just really individual what you think of names. Like there's a trend in Denmark to give your children unique names that they will surely get teased about when they go to school.
I simply think that if I was to give my child a turkish name today I could think of maybe five times more boy names than girl names.

Quoting CANLI: Btw,this one should be in off the topic thread,i don't know why posting it here Elisa ?! |
I doubted for a sec where to post it. I decided to put it in the language section because I thought it was too much related to language to make it an off-topic thread.
Anyway, I suggest to you all to forget about this thread because I never intended to start this kind of nasty discussion
