in essex every other word from someone's mouth is c*unt so it depends on how you were raised and the usage in your area as to whether you take offence or not to, so it is usually easier to err on the side of caution.

Nice - another reason to avoid Essex!

I'm curious as to how you're raising could make that word acceptable. It is common in rap videos for the men to refer to the women as B****, H* and other black people as N*****. However, if ANYbody including Snoop Dog walked up to me and called me that to my face I would be deeply offended. Just because the frequency of the word being used changes, does not mean that it has moved from its status of being rude, crude and socially acceptable!

anotherwords if your parents did a bad job then you view it as acceptable

Are all Essex people that rude? They never learned that some words can't be used in public? Poor Essex.

I thought the point of using an asterisk * was to avoid using the actual word or is it spelt differently in Essex?

Shame is Trudy is it not just Essex. But that is a good example. Sadly I have a brother who thinks it is fine to use these words in conversation with his only sister (apparently last Sunday I was f**k**g miserable c**t), infact they are more frequently used in all of his conversations than normal everyday words and if I know he is on the phone, "I am not in" as I find it extremely offensive!!

Sadly he also used to talk to his daughters in this way (similar to the way we were spoken to as children by my father). Thankfully they have managed to grow up fine, (without him as he abandoned them) but he still has not (grown up).

In my opinion, how you were brought up or spoken to has no bearing on how you decide to speak as an adult. I consider it to be down right ignorant.

I don't think Robin meant it literally that if you grew up in an area that swears that you would DEFINITLY swear but more like ....may use swear words more often or some people go in the opposite direction.
For i.e. growing up around London and rough areas I used to hear every swear word under the sun at least once a day but now I moved to Surrey and hardly anyone swears here. Yes you do get the odd people mouthing off but nothing like I was used to. And one of my closest friends who I have now know for 6 years hasn't sworn in all the time I have known her. I thought it was odd but nevertheless thought she was great for not doing so.

Maybe this is cynical, but I'm convinced that Alltoohuman had a good understanding of the meaning of the word he used. His other posts show that he had a good grasp of the language, just take a look here for example. People who don't have a good understanding of the language also don't argue that they're right despite being officially warned! He's just a sexist manipulator with a dirty mind who thinks that he's smart enough to get away with anything he wants to, despite continuously violating all boundaries.
