Quoting Quasimodo: Now that you say, as a native British, "it is considered to be the most offensive and taboo of swear words, I have to believe you; I have to believe however the others, too, native like you, who regard the word in question "merely as informal but not vulgar slang" or who say "it is more closely related to the word 'bitch'." If you think your approach to the word is absolute and is shared by overwhelming majority; then why don't you warn those approaching to the word differently than you, not to write such so-called info for, for example, us whose second language is English. Maybe you would simply think they tell a lie about the use and meaning of the word? |
This is just funny and pathetic, I don't understand why we have to go back and forth and bang in his head over and over that what he said is unacceptable. If it's ok with you and your friends Quasimodo/Alltoohuman - go for it, but get it that it's not acceptalble at least here! I know, must be very inconvenient to have to follow the rules if you're so spoiled.

Quoting aenigma x: A useful exercise for insomniacs. Let us count the number of posts which criticise the culture of the UK or US and see how the natives of these countries take such criticism good humouredly - some even agreeing with the comments.
Now, lets look at the number of criticisms about Turkish culture. Very few.
Let's look at the reaction? Explosive!
Dont preach to me about intolerance!!!!!!!!! |
Well Aenigma... UK and US are the big bosses, the rest of the world are just poor victims who are not responsible for absolutely anything, most of the time they can't even make their own decisions - you still want to criticize them?

The UK are not a boss, just a wimpering puppy belonging to Bush. And I have criticised only one aspect of Turkish culture, as far as I am aware!!!

Quoting Quasimodo:
The fact that such swear words are used, at that frequently, in movies and lyrics, is the most evidence of wrongness of what you meant, for receivers/recipients of those movies and lyrics are but you yourselves (us ourselves).
Yeah yeah! We all see how much strict those social/cultural rules are! |
Movies?!?!?!?!?!?! That is your claim and justification for using crude and rude language? So now Spielberg and Tarantino, your favorite, are societal moral authorities? What if Bill Gates starts making movies that depict buying Microsoft computers? Will that make it ok for you to go out and buy one or Window's Alta Vista now? I'll give him a call...I'm sure he'll relish the idea!!!

Quoting vineyards: How many sovereign countries do the US - UK duo attack per decade and how many more do they threaten to attack? Doesn't this knowledge alone make them the objects of such a criticism?
As a matter of fact, even much feared Cenghis Han could not possibly kill or cause the deaths of as many innocent people as the coalition did. Even in his heyday, Hitler could not pass a National Defense Doctrine containing phrases like : "even if the US government feels that a nation may pose a threat to the US in the future, the US government can resort to military intervention."
They say the total number of casualties has exceeded 1 million in Iraq alone. Remember Vietnam, remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki and try to feel some sympathy for the leaders of those two countries.
Let me ask you openly, how much sympathy would you feel for Turkey if the Turks got involved in not all but one of those crimes?
Nevertheless, I agree with you regarding Turks being intolerant to criticism. I wish we were a little bit more mature in our reactions and understanding of the worldly affairs although this goes for people other than Turkey as well. |
Vinyards I will answer this as the post was MINE and was regarding CULTURAL criticism not political. I think you will find the majority of people on this site agree with your criticisms about our country's politics.
Luckily you will find none of them calling you names or giving you a label of racist scum for your comment!
For goodness sake open up that bottle of Rioja and pour me a large glass

Quoting vineyards: Karekin when you are the prima donna you are under the limelight. The US and the UK are capable of much much more evil than Turkey.

Vineyards as I have only had nice things to say about you I take great offense to you calling me a prima donna!!!! I don't ever disagree that the US "GOVERMENT" is full of evil. I disagree that you never expect a US civilian to defend themselves against your racism but if any comment is slightly offensive to a turkish person it starts a HUGE debate! I say "good point" and you attack me???? Nice! I guess the proof of Aenigmas comment is in the pudding.
