Maybe this is cynical, but I'm convinced that Alltoohuman had a good understanding of the meaning of the word he used. His other posts show that he had a good grasp of the language, just take a look here for example. People who don't have a good understanding of the language also don't argue that they're right despite being officially warned! He's just a sexist manipulator with a dirty mind who thinks that he's smart enough to get away with anything he wants to, despite continuously violating all boundaries.

Hi Catwoman Just to clarify, the link you gave to the VERY long letter about me was a joke letter that was automatically generated by a website The things contained in the letter about "aenigma" were not actually about me (!) and were not written by AllTooHuman

Ok, I didn't know that but I still think the same about alltoohuman's attitude.

I for one am sorry to see him depart, yet again!

Sometimes checking a dictionary for a word's meaning is not enough (especially if you are using swear or slang words).

It wasn't just a dictionary, but more... It is Wikipedia containing its usages and more as well. Here

Quoting aenigma x:

the word you used is considered to be the most offensive and taboo of swear words.

It has completely different status to the other words you used as comparisons.

Now that you say, as a native British, "it is considered to be the most offensive and taboo of swear words, I have to believe you; I have to believe however the others, too, native like you, who regard the word in question "merely as informal but not vulgar slang" or who say "it is more closely related to the word 'bitch'." If you think your approach to the word is absolute and is shared by overwhelming majority; then why don't you warn those approaching to the word differently than you, not to write such so-called info for, for example, us whose second language is English. Maybe you would simply think they tell a lie about the use and meaning of the word?

I would have been surprised if you hadn't agree with aenigma!

Quoting Capoeira:

This is an issue for English as a Second Language speakers. Because, many vulgar words are used in movies and music lyrics they assume it is acceptable to use

To understand some things, there is no need to be master of a language, in our case, of English. The fact that such swear words are used, at that frequently, in movies and lyrics, is the most evidence of wrongness of what you meant, for receivers/recipients of those movies and lyrics are but you yourselves (us ourselves). They cannot use second time something socially unacceptable in their works, since and as long as it is you, the people, who really find it unacceptable and who judge such movies and lyrics.

We all know the success of The Silence of the Lambs and by how many people it was watched. If "I can smell your c**t", for example, were really socially unacceptable, people hadn't watched it that much and even they hadn't used such sentence in the movie.

Quoting Capoeira:

in conversations or a dialogue.

For the sake of goodness, just re-read my posts in this thread! Would you really think they are like conversations or dialogue? (And I won't mention I had no intention to offend any one while I was writing that word.)

Quoting Capoeira:

There are VERY strict social/cultural rules

Yeah yeah! We all see how much strict those social/cultural rules are!

I am sorry you have taken my post offensively. Actually I was trying to defend you.

I am so tired of defending myself here today, but will briefly try to explain that the word IS considered very bad in the UK. It is the only word which is not allowable on British Television and is it heavily censored. The reason it was used in Silence of the Lambs was for its absolute SHOCK value. It depicted very well what a evil person he was.

There is perhaps a difference between the USA and UK. In the UK, for example, the word b**ch is considered a very mild thing to say to someone, whereas I am aware that in the USA it is considered more offensive. Maybe Wikipedia are comparing the two words from an American viewpoint. Who knows?

I realise that Kai and Robyn considered the word to be more acceptable, and I can only judge this word on the common view of it as I see it.

Again, apologies if you felt aggrieved by my post. And now I really can't be bothered to say anymore here.

the c-word is not acceptable here in australia too. it's such a vulgar and unpleasant word. it's probably the only word not allowed on tv and radio here too.

maybe it's just me, but i cringe if i ever hear it. if it is said, it's always used with the f-word in front of it.

Listen, double standards of the society and idiocy of masses do not by any means give you the right to act the same way (with double standards - you should know that!). It's really not cute or funny when you behave like an immature and use such reasons: "oh, look - he/she also does that, so why can't I?!?!!" as a valid explanation for your behavior. Can you see that side of the story.... I mean you're trying to be sharp and catch the loopholes, no?

A useful exercise for insomniacs. Let us count the number of posts which criticise the culture of the UK or US and see how the natives of these countries take such criticism good humouredly - some even agreeing with the comments.

Now, lets look at the number of criticisms about Turkish culture. Very few.

Let's look at the reaction? Explosive!

Dont preach to me about intolerance!!!!!!!!!

This is just funny and pathetic, I don't understand why we have to go back and forth and bang in his head over and over that what he said is unacceptable. If it's ok with you and your friends Quasimodo/Alltoohuman - go for it, but get it that it's not acceptalble at least here! I know, must be very inconvenient to have to follow the rules if you're so spoiled.
