I guess that depends on who you view are the "small group ruining things"
You may feel I am ruining the site for you, I may have another group in mind!

Quoting Deli_kizin: I always feel that the ones who jump too high to defend themselves towards so-called 'offendings', act as if they have something to hide, and are really afraid it will come to day-light.
Terms as 'dont generalize', 'stereotypical', 'insults', 'they are not all like that' always make me feel that the ones who are saying this, are in the group who actually İS like that. Because if not, why bother so hard to defend something you should not feel insulted with in the first place?
When discussing a point, one can't do anything else but generalize from time to time. As long as everyone is aware of that, I see no harm.
No, people are not attacking ALL Turkish men, not ALL girls who have a summerlove are silly. But face it: this is unfortunately the general tendency of holidayresort workers versus young girls, seeking to be loved. |
Very well said, indeed. That's what I am thinking nowadays as well. I used to think that I was supposed to explain every single misinformation about Turkey here. But I soon realized that that would only make the situation worse. That looks really as If I were trying to hide something. Sometimes you have no chance than letting people what they want to believe. Jannisary is right, leave them doing whatever they like in this forum. Don't try to correct them, It would only be waste of time. Concentrate on the users that really want to learn Turkish, and spend your energy on teaching them Turkish.
Stereotyping people is sometimes inevitable, unfortunately. I totally agree on that. There're incredible stereotypical thoughts about foreign women in Turkey as well. Just look at that for instance:
http://sozluk.sourtimes.org/show.asp?t=ingiliz+kizlari
People like to stereotype people. We can't do so much about that in general.
But what we can do in this forum is that we can watch out the way we deal with the issues. You have full freedom to criticize the Turkish resort workers or Turkish people in general, but important point is HOW you do that. What is your motivation, do you have racist point of view? Do you explain every single thing with ethnic backgrounds? You said that we should face that truth, let's face another truth related to it: There're some users here who experienced a harmful relationship with holiday resort workers and who have strong negative feelings toward anything about Turks turned this forum into a platform for their hate speech against Turks, which is somewhat encouraged by the forum administration in the name of "freedom of speech."

Quoting Deli_kizin: Quoting CANLI:
That is really boring, and offending too to lable people of the country 'men or women' with some personal experience !
|
Well, isnt that how we all see things, through our own personal experiences? Isn't 'No I have a friend who..' a common arguement for 'defenders' to say that not all are that way? |
Actually,no
Mature people dont do that !
So,if i have a bad experience with an Egyptian man,so all Egyptian men are bad ?
Then if i have another experience with a Turk,or Birt,or what ever, then i would lable all the people with my own experience ?
We take lessons through our personal experiences, but we dont lable
Lots of women here had bad experiences with Turk, then now they are married to another Turk,so i guess they didnt lable it,they just took lessons.
Quoting Deli_kizin:
I am in love with a Turkish man, but I do not feel offended when someone says that the girls who love Tyrkish men are naive. Simply because I know they have to generalize in the discussion and dont specifically mean my case. And I dont feel the need to defend myself, because I do not feel insulted.
|
You dont feel offended, but other women do.
There was an attack in another thread for the women just because she is having a relationship with a Turk, and even the woman didnt complain about it.
Some women left here because of that,so that means they really felt offended about it.
They dont defend themselves too,but they say,''Heyy,we dont like it'' its their rights .
Quoting Deli_kizin:
I agree that such threads have become boring as there is no 'final conclusion'. But saying that 'not everyone is like that', doesnt deny that there ARE people who are like that. It is a common effect that a small group can ruin it for the bigger group, but asking 'what are you doing on this website' is not the way to change the impression. The way to change it, is to make the small group stop ruining it for the bigger group. |
İ agree with you 'what are you doing on this website' is not the way to change the impression,it was a way to say 'we FED UP about it' but again,i dont agree with that too.

I want to point out that the Turks here have shown exemplary generosity in taking time to translate for people they don't even know. In reward, "some" here insult, belittle, provoke and taunt. Didn't your family/culture teach you to show some appreciation for generous gifts?
I don't know of any other site that offers such selfless service to others. In my work, we often have to find short translations for requests in other languages. You can get a short message translated, anything longer requires $$$. I found this site looking for a translation for a short message sent to my company in Turkish. With the aid of the dictionary, it was translated.
The amount of translation available here, due to the generosity of the very same ethnicity that some can't seem to get enough of bashing is a tribute to the character of the Turkish people.
All I can say is, shame on you. You bite the hand that feeds you. It is to say the least very chauvinistic.

İ guess i have the right to talk the way i like, for myself or for somebody else
İts not against the forum rules i believe to talk on other people behalf !
All women here in this particular thread including YOU have talked about how Turkish workers cheaters and gold diggers,do i assume they all talk for themselves ? out of personal experience ?
Why do you address me specially with this comment and not the others then ?!

What does that have to do with Turkish tourist workers WHO CHEAT??? These two are not exclusive. There's no doubt that there are some great Turkish people on this web site.
Alameda, being a Muslim living in the US you'd do much more good for Turkish people if you contributed to a better understanding of each other instead of deepening the conflicts! Shame on you.
